You know what I'm talking about.

Just looking up a video on the Internets. Then, you see that one dislike. It's not an offensive video, it's just a video of, say, a pretty good song. The video isn't very popular, maybe only a few thousand views. The quality of the video is also pretty top-notch. And you wouldn't find it without purposely looking it up.

If only I could have the answer!

It's more the attitude of self-importance in the way you criticized it that people likely found a problem with. Stating your opinion in that way is bound to rouse a bit of frustration with other people, and to be honest you should have seen that coming, and so you can't really be surprised that people tried to ask you about it. You're acting as if they should have just ignored what you said and walked on by, but you're clever enough to know people aren't like that.

Heck, if someone walked by you and criticised something or someone you like in an offhanded way, talking in a manner that suggested an informed opinion, surely you'd have something to say to them, or at least questions to ask. It's pretty much human nature, and you should be aware of how people will react.

A drastic comparison, and I'm in no way comparing you to them, but this is sort of what homophobia is like. They will criticise the gay community with something like "It's unnatural" and people will make argument, because they don't believe that the person is right. If the person says "I'm not willing to discuss this, now leave me in peace!", then everyone will conclude that this person was wrong, and is simply prejudiced, and that any of the reasons they give are just weak excuses they use to give reason for their feelings. Truth is though, they just feel that way, and they're desperately trying to find something to explain their prejudice

For you, there's some indescribable feeling in you that makes you just cringe away from the sight of people talking excitedly about Daft Punk. You can't understand the feeling, and so you want to vent your frustration to the fans. You come up with reasons that aren't really your reasons, and use those. You're essentially just blowing off steam, because you're confused about how you feel, and when people ask you to explain yourself it upsets you further, and you start to wish you hadn't done this in the first place, and so you're insulting people and trying to get them to stop.

This is how I see it. You simply just don't like Daft Punk, and because of their fame you feel the need to have a solid reason. You feel like you've found something that might pass as one, and you feel like venting about it to the people who like them, and then you see how easily the logic falls through, so you backpedal. You face that you don't have a reason, and then there you are, with people against you, and you're still caught in the miserable sickening feeling of not understanding your prejudices against things. The people against you are only giving you more grief, and so you take the frustration out on them, which only makes things worse.

    About right?

In your first post, you said you were listening to Giorgio. The third track.
Nobody is forcing you to stay. We're criticising your lack of an argument, just an unfleshed out 'they haven't changed since 1999' which is just straight up bullshit. It's ok that you don't like it, but you can't get all mad when we call out your lack of reasoning. Also, how are we being elitists?

Could you imagine if I went into the middle of the mlp thread for example, and started posting 'wow ok WOW Im into episode 2 and this shit is awful not even worth the time I wasted' and then called anyone who rebutted me as being a cartoon elitist?

The line 'everyone needs to chill the puppy out' made me laugh tho. You're the only one lashing out and swearing.

If you don't like this album, or anything else dp have released, why eve bother coming into the thread?

Honestly, regardless of whoever is right or wrong you seem to "look stupid" just based on how aggressive you are being and all the fuck offs you're dishing out.

That's a very lazy criticism. That just makes me think "you're not that into dance music". Homework is miles away from Discovery, which is miles away from Human After All, which is miles away from Random Access Memories. I honestly do not know how you can think that Homework is like RAM in any way. They're both dance I guess?

Well there has been a problem in Electronic music (I absolutely refuse to use the term EDM) for a while now. It reminds me of '70s stadium rock. We're trying to treat producers (and even DJs?!) like we treated rock stars in the '70s. We're treating Skrillex, Deadmau5 and Avicii the same way we treated Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Freddie Mercury. This is highly problematic to the development of dance music in a number of ways, but mainly as it just slows the development of music down to a snails pace. Deadmau5 hasn't changed his style since Random Album Title, and people love him for it. They can show up to a Deadmau5 show and get exactly want they expected, a lot of strobes and the same thumping soulless house they've been hearing for like 10 years. Its the same for Skrillex or say, Tiesto, too. It's horribly narcissistic, and an awful shame. Producers are just trying to do what they do, write generic trite and hope they get lucky enough to be seen as one of the big stars. That's how Avicii did it.

Anyways enough rambling on about the faults in dance, on to the album.

To me, RAM sounds like it's doing too much. It's pretty much the very antithesis of Human After All. I think this was very deliberate. One only has to look at the videos they've been doing. They've really been pushing this "robot" theme, which is pretty much the opposite of Human After All. I don't know whether they're trying to make a statement, but the music is definitely much less minimalist and electronic than Human After All. I don't know entirely how I feel about it yet. I think they're trying to play the whole disco and throwback theme much too much. A lot of this doesn't even sound like dance music anymore. I'd like to see how they incorporate it into a set.

When Alive 2007 came out, everyone had a sort of revelation about Human After All. Like everyone just sort of thought "Oh now I see what they were going for". I hope that RAM has a similar evolution.

So far I'd give it a 7/10, I hoped for more but wasn't entirely disappointed.

Just finished L'Étranger (im not using the french name to be pretentious, I read the french version alongside the translation to build my french vocab, and additionally you may know the name  from tf2: one of the spy guns is named after this book) by Albert Camus. Very thought provoking read, although I'm sure that the absurdist and anti-religious sentiments it has were far more shocking 70 years ago than they are today. After all, existential nihilism and atheism are cornerstones of teenage angst in this age. Not that this subtracts from the books message, but it's just interesting how things change.
I'd recommend checking it out. It's quite a short read, you'd probably be able to get through it in a couple of days.

I'm simultaneously reading The Great Gatsby, The Importance of Being Earnest (for the 2nd time), and the Tropic of Cancer. Will report back when done
