They're like money. You can use them in the casino, MunjPets, lottery, etc. You can also give them to other members. (Usually in exchange for something.) There's also a trading system for items, but there's not much there. I heard Dustin or Tappy's making a shop... Oh, and some people try to get the most. It's a little contest.
