Yes Avatar is by far my favorite movie of all time now. It is a MUST see in 3D as well.

5 Stars for sure!!

Apparently, they used some newfangled high-tech camera rig to make it look more realistic...was it two small cameras side by side, then fused to make it 3d?

Avatar was 90% CGI based, which gave it the amazing atmosphere of the film, the rest of the film was done using Virtual Cameras with special 3D lenses and filters to capture facial expression before processing them back through CGI.

Its pretty awesome how they have done it!

No. I have better things to do than go and watch Pocahontas in space.

From what I've heard, it's like a bad Disney movie without the singing.

One word:

Genius.

My gosh, AVATAR was simply fantastic! It's my favorite movie of the year, by far. James Cameron, you've outdone yourself! :3

I'm also hoping on getting the videogame for Christmas. I've heard that the game is really great, and apparently they were working on it when they were working on the movie. Its the first time I've heard a movie game get good reviews. xDD

SOMEWHAT MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD, YAR.

Surface evaluation:

- We get all the lame plants

- We get all the lame deities (as opposed to massive planetary biocomputer)

- Remember that awesome part?

Tidbits:

- I forgot it was an analogy for Native Americans after awhile, despite it being blatantly obvious

- No one explained

  • What Unobtainium does in this universe
  • Why humans can't breath on the surface, despite there being a bunch of trees
  • What happens when the linkhairs are cut, despite the main character being held at knifepoint in the beginning of the movie by his hair
  • Why the mountains float, though it's probably because of the gravitational pull between planet/moons or something, but then gravity still had an effect on the Na'Vi
  • Why equipment was messed up in floating mountains, but I'm thinking it was because of the Soul Tree's electrobrain giving off EMPs or something.

- Notice: There were no Native American marines.

- "Bitch".

- Tribal rallying: YOU MIGHT GET EMOTIONAL

  • I did

- Arrowproof glass is not arrowproof for the final battle.

- Flying dragon thing throws helicopter.

- One qualm is that whenever someone makes something about alien species, by which I mean any sentient species that isn't human, they always are anatomically exactly like us.
  • Breasts, nipples (Reproductive system might be same as well)
  • Fingernails, facial features, entire body with exception of lack of thumb
  • Hair
  • Culturally similar to humans (Bows, way of dress by censorship of pelvis and chest, except for males)
  • Male and female (Also, gender related shoulder, hip width)
  • Mentions a heart, pats chest
  • Emotions

Come on, evolution. Be a bit more diverse than that. ;o

No. I have better things to do than go and watch Pocahontas in space.

I don't know how people are getting Pocahontas out of this, it was more like Dances With Wolves in space.

Pocahontas was like, here's John Smith, here's an Indian girl, they make out, they have cultural troubles, John gets shot, has to leave, end of story.

The only similarity I see is how the humans went to Pandora in Avatar for that mineral, and the English in Pocahontas went to North America for gold.

@Saha:

The Na'vi were unique in how they were linked to the world and all of it's creatures. We, as humans, aren't, and have to invent and change our surroundings to make them usable. The reason the Na'vi are still the way they are in the film with the primitive weapons and such is because they never had a reason to advance, they got by perfectly the way they were.

But I agree with a lot of the things that you pointed out.
