God, my dad...

Ok, so I love my Dad and all that, but he really hasn't caught up with the times.

Lets start with technology, he hasn't really embraced it. To him, that computer is that thing in the corner that he can use to look up the football (soccer for you Americans, but football is what it really is :P) scores.

Next, what seems to be his annoyance at the fact that I am smart. If I say something intelligent, that he doesn't understand, he shouts at me, and then he's annoyed that I didn't do well enough in my exams! ::Mumbles under breath::

Finally, his extreme embarrassment at the mention of sex. I can talk to my Mum about it with relative ease. But my Dad shouts (again) at any mention. An example: I get a news feed from Wired News, part of which is the Sex Drive section, which contains articles about sex and related subjects. I get one entitled "Sex Toy Shopping Should be Fun". My brother, as brothers do, shouts "You shouldn't be shopping for sex toys!" What does my Dad do? Cop a mental, he refuses to listen to me, I tell him that it is just an article, but noooo, anything that may educate me about sex is completely forbidden by him...

Its so frustrating, do you have any similar problems?

OH my god. My parents were bad, but the other way around. They're fine now cos im older, but they had (or have) some weird ways of teaching me things.

' Oh my god! You got a girlfriend?! Here have some condoms! '

It was really quite awkward.

No, I do love them, but its very frustrating.

Zuzu, thats just scary, my parents aren't at all like that. In fact I'm not even sure what they would do if they had seen that condom in the bin... ^_^

Eh? Your 13! (I checked your profile :P)

A condom is a thin layer of latex that prevents pregnancy, a very useful invention to say the least! :D

Check my Contraception topic on the open floor for more information, I went into detail on that... :D

Anyway, yeah... Parents are odd...

At the end of the day, I think I was brought up well

They just had a (typically) different way of teaching me things, which usually tended to work anyway.

and it wasnt just with sex, they did alot of other odd things.
