I liked John because he was witty. And they were all high all the time (and tripping too). It actually affected their music for the better.

Actually, the only two songs he ever wrote with the Beatles were "Don't Pass Me By" and "Octopus's Garden." Most of the rest were either covers (like "Boys") or written by Lennon/McCartney (like "With a Little Help From My Friends"). He has a great voice but he has a limited range. He showed off his better songwriting skills during his solo career, I think. "Photograph," "It Don't Come Easy" and "Oh My My" are good examples of that.
