Hastily, poorly made flow charts.

What do they mean??

Before someone says something, I am aware the stone platforms are different in OoT3DS.

But I am thinking Nintendo originally wanted to make some kind of connection and retcon'd it out.

I noticed this many moons ago, and even took pics.

I believe there was something off about the waterfall, too.

Yeah I rememdered noticing that when I was a kid

When I did I thought two things: either lazy bark design or that the Sheikah planted the great Deku tree

I forgot how I drew to the secound conclusion

My cynicism says its a reused texture, but thats just boring so......

Maybe there is a reason for this. If the theory that the Sheikiah were at one time persecuted by the rest of Hyrule is correct, then it's very likely that they took refuge in places like Kokiri forest, where nobody can venture to or even easily access. Naturally they would want to mark their territory, so they carved eyes of truth into the trees.

Also, I can see how you would think the Sheikah planted the Deku tree. Since they were very good at lore and prophecy (all the legends of the Triforce are contributed to them), it makes sense that they would be the genisis for the guardian that would protect the legendary Hero of Time through his childhood.

I remember thinking the bark was a little too patterned/artistic when I was a kid too

I mean in comparison to the "walls" of the forest, which are supposed to be trees lol.

lol wat

I knew those were trees as soon as I saw them. :<

Also Knuckle, I have no idea where you get "(all the legends of the Triforce are contributed to them)" from.

The Sheikah were simply guardians of the royal family.

If the Sheikah-Twili connection is true, though, I don't see why they would hide in the Kokiri Forest with the Kokiri, or plant the Deku Tree.

In Ocarina of Time, a lot of the legends of the triforce are noted as "a legend passed down by the Shiekah," and Rauru calls Link the Hero of Time as if it were a predetermined title, so it's possible that the Shiekah had a legend on the Hero of Time and wanted to act on it by creating the guardian of the Kokiri.

Knuckle, I will now site an Ocarina of Time text dump.

When evil rules all, an awakening

voice from the Sacred Realm will

call those destined to be Sages,

who dwell in the five temples.

One in a deep forest...

One on a high mountain...

One under a vast lake...

One within the house of the dead...

One inside a goddess of the sand...

Together with the Hero of Time,

the awakened ones will bind the

evil and return the light of peace

to the world...

This is the legend of the temples

passed down by my people, the

Sheikah.

Before that...I have things I want

to tell only to you. Please listen.

Another unknown legend of the

Triforce passed down by the

shadow folk, the Sheikahs....

The Triforce separated into three

parts. Only the Triforce of Power

remained in Ganondorf's hand.

The strength of the Triforce of

Power enabled him to become a

mighty, evil king, but his dark

ambitions were not satisfied.

To gain complete mastery of the

world, Ganondorf started looking

for those chosen by destiny to

hold the two other Triforce parts.

It's not "every" tale of the Triforce. The first one alludes to them knowing about the Hero of Time legend, and the second part is just what they would know from common knowledge if they had any past experiences with the Triforce.

They really don't have any connection with Kokiri Village, and very little connections with the Triforce.

Unless we include Twilight Princess, but then, their connection isn't a forest-fostering one.

The Deku Tree was assigned as the forest guardian, probably like the guardian spirits in Twilight Princess.

Only back then the Goddesses didn't know how to make cool glowly spirits, so they just planted a tree.
