Let's talk about The Wind Waker

This is just a place to discuss what makes The Wind Waker such an awesome game, because it really deserves a general discussion topic. heck, I'm pretty sure that this is a lot of people's favorite Zelda game.

So, what makes this game great for everyone who likes it? I think the characters really impressed me the most; the Koroks were neat, the Rito were really cool, and pretty much every NPC on Windfall island was significant in some way in one sidequest or another. What do you guys think?

Wind Waker is just...so amazing. The music is the BEST of the series, it's really funny, (XD) The boss battles are fun and exciting, puzzles and dungeons were amazing.

Ohh....it's just PERFECT!!

I feel like they really chose to limit themselves when they chose to portray this entire half of the time split with this art style. Now everything they choose to do in any character needs to involve tiny legs and a tall torso, or else it just won't make sense.

Have to agree with Jared, the music is quite amazing. I mean, it was just begging to be downloaded and listened to fully through several times by me.

It's just that the style is so appealing and cartoony that makes it so great, that they could somehow create this DEEP story in such an unserious environment/style. It's also p. fun, of course, having so many things to do. Figurines, heart pieces, treasure maps, upgrades, hidden caves. So crazy.

If only Twilight Princess were more like it, then it might've been good.

There's one zelda song I've been trying to find in windwaker, and I've been looking through the windwaker OS on youtube to see if I could find it, but I don't know where it is. I think it was the song played when Link found the kokiri and zora sages, but not the song that they taught medli and makar? Does anyone know where I can find that song? It's been in and out of my head for a couple weeks now, and a variation of it is the song played in the introductory cutscene.

I loved this game. When I first played it, I was playing through every Zelda game I could get my hands on. Playing them back-to-back like that really put some things into perspective. The music has this great Celtic slant, but also incorporates older themes in interesting ways (my favourite is the mellow version of LttP's Hyrule Castle theme). Also, the way Link fights in this one, with all the special moves really struck me as a turning point in the series. I wasn't sure about the Cel-shading at first, but it really grew on me.

Maybe it's because I'd played WW for the first time not long before, but Twilight Princess seemed to pale in comparison, especially when it came to innovation.

the art style doesn't imply timeline placement

I'm aware of this, and I'm not suggesting that art style is how do determine which game happens when. It's the only style they've been using for the games on the windwaker side of the line if I'm right. Though, I'm also aware there are also games that use this style that don't take place after the split, such as Minish Cap. But my point isn't about timeline placement, its the fact that whenever they use this style for a game, regardless of it's placement in the timeline, they need to have that skeletal structure or they'll look like outcasts.

Gorons have short legs, but compared to their arms by ratio, they're no where near as short as this in games like Twilight Princess.

This is why I'm happy with what they're doing with the new style in skyward sword, because it looks like they could do anything they wanted to or needed to for any character/enemy/species.

I loved all the sidequests and extra exploring you could do in Wind Waker, same reason why I love Majora's Mask.

Also, Makar. SO CUTE.
