Posted 28 Feb 2012 I always like Disney's dubs for Ghibli works, despite some Americanization sometimes. I'm just really surprised they even did that, considering Ponyo was aimed at even younger audiences and no names were changed in that. Sosuke, Fujimoto, everyone. xD But the dub was good; I thought Arrietty's, Hara's and Homily's VAs were all basically perfect. Shawn's was nice and suited his character, too. (And his English VA is also the guy from Wizards of Waverley Place. The older bro). Only thing I didn't like about the dub was some mistakes in lip match. this is to be expected of course, but I always felt like Disney's done such ace jobs with dubbing Ghibli films to make it look like they weren't even originally in Japanese. There were a few noticeable bits like where Pod's voice would keep talking and his mouth would be closed for a good second until it started again. But yeah, only the lip match.
