Wind Waker Comic

So, I just came upon this series of comics for Wind Waker that are hilarious. Before, I saw just a few and they were all great, but I never managed to see all the chapters. Now, I can and this is just the best.

I uploaded it on Imgur just for you people that don't like downloading stuff or are too lazy to download WinRAR. For those not in either of these categories.

It has all 8 chapters all nice and tidy. Plus credit pages that aren't included in the album I uploaded!! Extras!! (They aren't good).

Anyway, hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did. Just know some of the jokes go flat because some would only be funny to the Japanese or because it's some small joke that only a few would get. But, most are picture jokes that are easy to understand and very funny. The comic is also SO ADORABLE.

sometimes you think of something for other characters to do, and/or dont have any solid writing skills of your own. at least, not any that could form a coherant novel full of twists and thought and crap.

I'm waiting for Saha and T1g to get in here. They showed me this years ago. But yeah, it's funny sometimes.

It looks cute and well done. But it always bothers me when artist guys don't do original work. Like, what's the point of putting all of the time and effort into a thing that you don't own.

This is true. This is what bothers me about fanfiction.

sometimes you just have that "urghhhh, why is there no more of this series out right now/its over already?!" feeling, and you need to do....something. im not big on fanfiction, though, probably due to how much sludge its prone to.....im not gonna be bothered to read about a bunch of OCs in a world they just dont belong in. its fine if others like to do it, im just not into that. imo, there better be pictures, costumes, or props involved in that "something"--you know, some thought put into it. but no, no one should try to make it their lifes work. its copyrighted, and not worth it that way.

sometimes you just need an outlet, and as long as youre not even thinking of profiting/claiming it as your own, then i see no problem in it.

These are technical outlets at best. I don't see why someone would obsess so much over another series that they need to write their own branch of it. That's part of why I think cosplay is so weird. If you've got the creative energy to use another author's characters, why can't you make your own?

I thought this was an official comic. Like the other LoZ manga. Not regular "fanfiction."

lolpheo, i have no idea why youre bringing cosplay into it. fanfiction, yeah. cosplay? you lost me. but maybe thats cuz i like it, and have been at it for several years now. but, no matter how good i get at cosplays, im not interested in going into fashion design. likewise, someone doing a small fancomic on a series (using only the characters in the series) simply to entertain themselves and whoever chooses to look, wont necessarily want to run off and apply for the local newspaper. in fact, theyre probably not interested.

tbh, i rather like fancomics/doujinshi, because (when done right) they can be like little bonus episodes of a series--never mentioned again (cuz theyre noncannon, duh), and containing silly character interactions. or whatever floats our boat, really, if you can find it.

this probably sounds weird, but if youve ever gotten all giddy over a series, even if only a little, then you know what im talking about--the whole "what do you MEAN theres no more? ;A; " reaction. its similar to finishing a really good book, and not really wanting to read anything for a while because the moment you do, youll stop caring about the characters of the first book, and/or be stuck with a bunch of characters you dont know well/dont care about/might not care about as much.

keeping characters in character could be considered good practice for people not-all-that-experienced in writing. practice for later when they need to keep their own characters in character, and avoid blurring all their characters into some noble lump of people that all have too-similar ideals and p soon can only be told apart by appearance only.

This is actually the reason I do not read fan-fictions; most writers try to put themselves into the character and, if the character is fully defined already, make them go out of character quite easily (most of this is usually unintentional and usually happens when the character has not been in any similar situations so they try to put themselves into the character shoes, which causes it)

But Link is not a fully defined character and the story naturally changes if you make Link actually speak (but it shouldn't change drastically, only responses and maybe some added parts, which can prove a writer's ability if done correctly)

Agreeing with Chimetals. Fanwork is a great way to practice writing, drawing and whatnot and maybe, you know, people just enjoy it? Like, I don't really want to get uppity and tell you to stop not liking fan stuff, your choice etc, but, don't keep knocking it either =/ it has it's benefits, bringing people together, fun way to pass the time, fun way to hone your skills idk. :<

But yeah, I read this manga, comic whatever a while back, it's still as adorable as ever <3 WW Link is the cutest thing ;; thanks for re-introducing it to me muffin

Think about everyone who isn't actually serious about writing or drawing. Making fan works is just the same amount of wasting time as watching television, except you're bettering skills you might not even care for. You knocking on fan fiction leaves a bad taste in my mouth, because you're kind of being a hypocrite in the energy-wasting sense. You have a lot of hand-eye coordination going on when you play TF2. Why don't you stop wasting your time using your hand-eye coordination for TF2 and become a professional yo-yo tournament champion? People have fun doing these things, so let them have fun.

Or you could practice what you preach and never do recreational activities ever for the rest of your life, and only do things for self-improvement or put up with the stress of always having to create original content. You would also have to only relate to a fanbase if they're fans of things you have created, because you're too busy not playing other games because the energy you spend interpreting another story is time better spent creating your own.

Some people don't want to become professional costumers, but do enjoy making costumes that put them in a cooler skin every once in awhile. Or someone might like to imagine a character in a different light or situation. It's physical, tangible daydreaming. Why criticize people for that? The whole human race can't all be creative artisans at something they just mildly enjoy. That's why there are hobbyists and professionals. Sometimes a person can be both, but there is still a distinct demographic difference.

And yes, people do sell these comics at conventions, so they're not just doing it because they were bored and wanted to vent hilarity in the most easily accessible fan based thought in their head. They do get something out of it.

Well put, Saha. I don't read a lot of fanfiction myself, but my fiancé does and he's shown me a few that are really well done. It's a way of continuing the story, thinking about the what-ifs and all that. Some of the doujinshi comics are really well done, and a way for artists to break into the market and hopefully start selling their own original works.

Thanks for posting the WW comics btw, FM. I've read through them before, but they're still hilarious.

In Japon it's fairly mainstream, despite copyrights infringements being an actual criminal offense. Like, if you upload anime to the internet in Japan, they will send police to your house and arrest you if you get caught. In the States, In the US, copyright infringements are settled through lawsuits.

That all being said, I don't know what Japan's laws are for selling fanmade works. It might just be not selling someone's product directly. But in the case of this fanmade publication (doujinshi; it's not just porn) it was probably sold, seeing its printed style.
