they have conventions for it and such, so i highly doubt its illegal. also a means of practicing/showcasing art/layout skills or making a portfolio of sorts. that, and its not too typical of americans to make fancomics of series, so standards of which is infringement and which isnt varies...if someone made and sold a fancomic in america, the company/owner of the original series would be prone to shutting down or suing the fan. would i be wrong in thinking that in japan, a mangaka would just be really flattered? or too busy, idk.

I once saw a comic called "Spidery-mon". It was a Spiderman comic, only Spiderman had dreadlocks, and used those instead of webs. It was sold in a comic shop.

On the topic of fanmade things and Japan

I'm pretty sure that I've read that there are quite a number of mangaka that started out making doujinshi. I think the author of Azumanga Daioh started out with doujinshi. CLAMP might've too.

I thought this was an official comic. Like the other LoZ manga. Not regular "fanfiction."
