Posting in R&R as to avoid being accused of rupee harvesting. I can't believe we even have a term for it this fast.

I think the best way to deal with trolls (aka paddy) would to just delete his spam, as to avoid clutter, and change his name back to what it was before. Honestly renaming him to "I'm an idiot lol" is as immature and unfunny as what he's posting. I'm not standing up for him by posting this, I just legitimately think that it's kind of unprofessional and ineffective to handle it that way.

You can't fight world weary teenagers. The best you can do is block them out and reset everything to how it was, leaving no trace of their path of destruction. Clean up their mess and move on rather than starting a fight.

That's right. If it keeps up then you can ban them for a couple days or weeks, but changing their names is taking a step in the wrong direction. I second this.

I think you make a good point. We'll have to be more wary of who is posting too much/too quickly from now on, and maybe utilize the warn feature for spam. What I don't want to do is a make a post limit of like, one post per every 2 minutes or something. We don't have nearly enough members or activity for that kind of restriction.

No, he's in the same room as me so I didn't. I think it's still easier to ignore the personal attack and revert his name and ban him or whatever comes next. Honestly the whole thing is childish and what you just said is "he started it". I still think he's the most in the wrong, I just don't agree with your course of action with the name change.

I know he did. I just don't agree with your response to his name change. I think you should have changed it back to "Fagdraig!" instead of changing it to "I AM AN IDIOT LOL". Again, immature and unfunny.

I don't disagree with you for punishing him, but I just don't agree with your moderating style. If it was me I would have simply locked and deleted his threads, changed his name back, and then banned him for a day or so. Then sent him a PM to explain it in case he really was that dense, and then left it at that. I wouldn't retaliate with mindless personal insults.

Was not intended to be funny. Nor was it intended to make me look immature or an asshole but this will happen when I try to be patient with someone but they take it too far, fear my wrath essentially.

Mind you I had already played nice, but he pushed it too far.

Honestly "I'm impatient" isn't a good enough excuse imo. For me, not "playing nice" would just be dealing with them in a by-the-book manner. I wouldn't switch to YOU'RE SO DUMB. I think you played nice far too long anyway to be honest, I would have clicked over to moderator mode by the second thread.

To me, being impartial involves stripping everything of all emotion when dealing with rule breakers. Don't act like yourself, be formal and mechanic. Don't take things personally, and treat everybody the same. I feel like I'd find that fairly easy to achieve.

Like how taking away a privilege is a better punishment than giving them bad things. Emotional feedback is what people usually want, and that includes good and bad feedback. So give the emotionless feedback.

This is what happened: He posted his "rupee harvesting" threads I warned him twice in two of them, he joined IRC and brought it up and I told him I was against it, yet did it again after. He posted another one and I just locked it like the other ones, he then changed his name to "tappy is a jew" I then changed his name to "I AM AN IDIOT LOL" and suspended him, essentially when I stopped being patient. He then also logged into another one of his accounts to bypass his ban.

I'm not exactly sure how exactly long I am supposed to be patient if that was considered to be patient and then "fail."

I'm not about to bend over to a troll, thanks.

We can go back and forth with this all day but this is essentially getting to be dull and pointless. I'm sorry my actions might have offended you or others but in the end justice was served.
