I don't like The Onion. As clever as they are, it's practically pointless to watch them. Almost everything they say is lies. The funny part is when people take them seriously. At all. Ever.

Isnt the Onion a parody news source? As in they arent supposed to be serious or accurate?

Right. But everyone, either because they're gullible or too trusting or whatever, treats the onion as fact. Hell I've seen my local news source the onion before.

That's not gullible or trusting, that's just plain stupid.

Then i dont think it's pointless to read/watch them if they are there for entertainment. And they aren't "lying" but instead, joking. But i guess its the same thing? not really.

They're cut from the same cloth. But a good comedian is honest. Politics is a gold mine for comedians because they can actually tell the truth in a humorous way. I just don't understand the desire to "parody" news because it just means you'll lie and exaggerate all the time, like a regular news station. And people will believe you. That's the point.

I'd rather have something like Cracked, or the Daily Show, where at least they usually talk about the hard topics with a humorous spin. Have you seen some of Cracked's articles on the election? More truth than most of the bs news stations give out. On a comedy site. It's just sad/funny that a comedy site is better at reporting the news than the actual news stations.

Watch the videos Saha posted. They're all made up bullshit. Why do that? Because it's funny? That's not funny. The last thing we need is some dumbass watching that, thinking it's real, then spreading it to all his "I'm not good with Internet" friends, and them using it as real reasons not to vote for Romney or Obama.

That's what I said. Which means they only report bullshit. Whether that bullshit is funny is besides. It doesn't get us anywhere. I gain absolutely nothing (besides, maybe, a chuckle) by watching their videos.

They're also news with satire, or just satire in general. They're not quite informative, but that isn't to say there's no point in watching The Onion. Sometimes they have a clear opinion on the subjects they talk about, but at the same time they report it with some kind of truth to it. It's either dedicated to satire or humor, but that doesn't mean it can't say something.

For instance, I thought it was both funny and kind of true how it pointed to Romney's faith. Why would you avoid talking about the faith itself if that's what the candidate truly believes in? Mormonism can be really brutal.

I also don't like intentionally spread misinformation, but I mean come on. Romney's video was ended in a monologue about how the only thing that matters is love. The "specialist" on him said that he would fly off in a space ark with two of every currency. If you are so out of touch that you can't identify something as clearly tongue-in-cheek as pretty much anything from The Onion, then who is going to take you seriously?

Yeah and I mean why do i play video games? All they do is entertain me. Gosh its like all forms of media dont even serve a purpose at all, like what the puppy? Lets all sit in our rooms and try not the think about anything ever.

his opinion was wrong. Entertainment is supposed to entertain you. Don't expect entertainment to educate you unless its intended to. I don't watch SNL to learn politics, even when they parody politicians. Well, I don't actually watch SNL but you get the point.

Haha how was my opinion wrong? Because you disagreed with it?

If I evaluate the onion differently than you, I'm wrong? This isn't a matter of fact.

I could also go into how much more meaningful video games are compared to the onion, but I think you're not taking me seriously.
