The Hyrule Games

Hyrule was once a Peaceful Realm.

It was known as the "Shinning Jewel" of the Seven Kingdoms. People came from the world over to marvel at it's splendor, it's vast green fields, it's gleaming white cobblestone streets, and especially the pride and joy of the Kingdom, the Princess Zelda.

Then came the war....

In the East a Madman whose name is lost to History obsessed over an ancient power, driven insane by the loss of his Mother he sought to possess the Power of the Goddesses and waged a campaign of Terror that crippled the Kingdom.

According to an Ancient Prophecy when the kindgom was threatened a Hero would arise to defend it, when this Hero failed to appear Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule knew that the fate of his Kingdom rested with him.

The War lasted twenty long years, the kingdom was devistated but victory came at the death of the Madman. However a terrible calamity was unavoidable, the King was slain.

Stricken with Grief and a power she didn't understand the Princess, now Queen Zelda was seduced by the Triforce and transformed by it into a cold, emotionless despot.

As punishment for the War, Zelda decreed that every year on the Anniversary of her Father's death a celebration of skill would be held, two children each from the Seven Realms of Hyrule would be brought to the Temple of Time and would fight to the death for glory and bragging rights.

The last one standing would win riches for his or her province. And enough food to feed it's citizens for a decade.

It has been thirty years since that day, and the 30th Hyrule Games is fast upon us.

In the West, amid the rolling hills and green trees a Hero waits for Destiny to call. And when it does The Hyrule Games will never be the same again.

The way I see it it's like The Wind Waker. The people waited for the hero and when he didn't show up the prayed and the goddesses flooded the land. The Hero wasn't even born when Hyrule needed him but he was eventually.
