alexciel (temp name drawn out of a hat) was just.....idk. i like the ending, but the alex part was just....no. and i knew itd get shortened to "alex" when every fiber in my body said "this name should be shortened to 'ciel'!"

probably one of the main reasons that i outright reject anything generic is due to having such a name for twenty years. ive had another amanda in my life since i could remember. there was one at my church, one i met in kindergarten and still know, several in high school....the list just goes on. my mom has claimed (irritably at the world) how the name would have been really rare, cept that some soap opera actress had her kid on tv and named her amanda, shortly after my parents had dished me out that name.

alexciel was, again, literally drawn out of a hat. sayuri had everyone present in her apartment write down names, and had me pull three and pick the best one (three instead of a one shot chance, because of my awful luck). the other two were "adam" and some other thing i really didnt like.

 

and of course satouri sounds like some sort of druid name, when you tag on an ending like that, jeegus.

Satou still just doesn't sound right to me :/ Not only is it Japanese, its normally a family name (like, /the/ most common one). I guess if you're really going for unique then it kinda makes sense but at the same time its going to be obvious that you named yourself - what parent would give their American child a Japanese name? I know there is some appeal to having a unique name (I had one that I dont care to share for 17 years and never met another person with it.) I'm just saying you /might/ wanna give it more than a few weeks time to decide and commit to one name. At least keep an open mind about it. I actually thought I was going to go with Olivia for almost a month before I had a change of heart.

 

The other thing is, since Satou isn't a name people have heard before, it isn't inherently gendered male. It might be easier on you to pick a very obviously masculine name.

it doesnt have to be inherently male, or scream "i am made of testosterone aaaa". i just want it to be not female. and i didnt pick from a list of japanese names or anything, it has a different meaning, which is silly, but i like it. (and mostly the sound of it)
