So I could do the "Upvotes to the left" thing at a visible level.

I've begun to realize that I've changed a lot, and I'm trying to just be a better person in general.

What kind of metalworking do you do? Is it like artistic? or for a career? or is it a class?

Where I was - Boring as hell. I don't like big city areas. Lots of old people. Everyone is either complaining about or says they're from the D. (Yes, that's what we call Detroit here. We call it "The D" because of the Tigers logo)

Where I am now - Beautiful. You can go about 5 or 10 miles in any one direction and end up in either woods, on a small "mountain" (See Sugarloaf Mountain and Hogsback Mountain, or if you're into winter sports Marquette Mountain), or in a (currently freezing, but always cold) lake. Most people here are really nice. The area revolves around iron mining, paper making, and to an extent, coal mining, but the coal is of sub-par quality because of sulfur contamination. There's a lot of people from Chicago here because it's cheaper for them to come here than stay in state. Hunting is big, and around the UP there are still families that hunt and garden to survive. Indian casinos are scattered about as well.

It is so much better up North. It's far cleaner as well, to the point where the skies are literally bluer because of the lack of air traffic. (There's only 2 flights in per day, and on comparatively small craft)

Oh, and the Finnish chicks. There's a lot of Finnish people up here (and Koreans, but that's because we have a sister school in SK, so you won't find many out of Marquette), so there's an abundance of attractive people. We also get a lot of exchange students from the Nordic countries.

I do miss Polish food though. It just...doesn't exist here. Like at all. There's one store that sells real Polish sausage, and it's not even that good. One of the cafeterias had borscht one day, and I was really excited because I like borscht, but they didn't even have sour cream for it.

Blacksmithing mostly. Some welding or simple machine work with grinders, sanders, or occasionally, a plasma cutter (Because those things are fun as hell. 25000 degrees (not a typo) cuts steel like butter.).

It's for a class, but sometimes I sell stuff to people. I wish I could make a career out of it though, but I would be worried about finding a job.

That sounds really cool. I took a basic art metal class and it was really fun. Really, really frustrating to work with metal, but also really satisfying.

Eh. I think wood is more frustrating (I love both wood and metal working, don't get me wrong), but metal is usually fixable. You can't exactly weld wood. You can't move material around on wood either.

If you want to get more into metalwork (blacksmithing in particular) you should look up a brake drum forge and a railroad anvil.

But yes. The satisfaction when you're done...
