I follow all the blogs.

My favorite it when the original post is some kind of joke, and the reblogger adds

"Reblogging because of [punchline] XD"

Tumblr has changed a lot in the 3+ years I've been using it. Well, I don't use it much anymore. It's quite a shit storm now and now I'm starting to feel the same way about reddit.

I don't know if I've just outgrown my blogging desire or just realized that literally no one cares. I like posting music but I don't even use it to store stuff I've liked anymore. Kind of like what Saha said, I just have found other things to do with my time.

All social networking sites get like that. "Imgur" recently has reached status as a social site, though primarily revolving around images, and yet it's still easy to tell it has about two years left tops before it goes to shit. Facebook is the only site that hasn't made itself irrelevant because it keeps itself on all the other websites you want to visit, so you can "log in with facebook." It's such a regularly accessed site that there isn't even a "lol go back 2 myspace fagit" like there is between 4chan and reddit because pretty much everyone uses facebook, if only because it makes logging into other websites/accessing something faster than it would take to just register your email so much faster.

facebook is monumentally shit. reddit is filled with fedora wearing new athiests. imgur is like reddit, but without the text. 4chan is the edgy 16 year old who carries around a copy of mein kampf. tumblr is a college age studying english who just thinks she's an activist because she signed a petition.

4chan is okay sometimes, but it's heavily populated with a bunch of ridiculously sexist people for some dumb reason.

I think most places have their drawbacks, shit people, etc, and the best thing people can do is try and avoid that stuff on those sites, while still using them for the things that you like about them. I generally dislike reddit for the FREE SPEECH I LIKE CHILD PORN ATHEISM IS THE ENLIGHTENMENT etc stuff that I've seen on there a LOT, but that's largely avoidable by not going into places like r/atheism and the countless porn areas and stuff, instead I use it to look at Crusader Kings 2 stuff mainly. I barely use tumblr because it's harder to avoid the shit, but if I do it's just to look at funny pictures really. Same with 4chan, I'll browse /vg/ for grand strategy general and I'll go through the anime board and the tabletop strategy board but that's about it. All three of these sites have massively shit, vocal people, the goal I have is to use them while acknowledging these problems exist and trying to avoid them.

yeah this is truth. reddit is a shithole but places like /r/linguistics, /r/paradoxplaza, /r/futurebeats are really cool. tumblr is fine if you dont follow shitty blogs. i follow a bunch of funny ones, like therailrat, so i dont get all the preachy activist shit. 4chan is my time sink. if i've got nothing better to do, i'll just browse /lit/, /int/, /mu/, or gsg too. also i go on twitter so i guess thats another social time sink.

Yeah I think everyone who's smart enough has the same approach to reddit and 4chan, and thats that the only reason you should ever go to engage in any serious discussion is if you're going to a very specific board. And if you remember that nobody on 4chan likes /b/(even /b/!). But even then, in my experience, every board on 4chan seems to feel like it actually needs to collectively be a giant asshole.

I browsed /ic/, the art critique board, for a year and a half until somebody tried to convince me that red sonja was "interesting and creative character design," and that was the end of my regular browsing, though I still go back there every now and then if I have a question or something. One big part of /ic/ is that they take pride in "honest critique." Compared to all the other art communities you can find online (cghub, conceptart, deviantart), this makes /ic/ pretty valuable; most of the other sites, if you ask for honest critique, will just say "I love it! But don't forget to study loomis!" And so on. /ic/ isn't afraid of telling you your work sucks. But the big issue with that is that so much of /ic/'s community confuses honesty with animosity. You'll see someone make a thread for something they made recently who wants critique, and someone will say "it's shit" or "more loomis" without saying why it's shit, or what they need to work on to improve, in what direction, and so on. It's great to be honest with someone when they need serious critique, but just saying "it's shit" is just as bad as saying "I like it!"

I'm running my mouth in wild directions that aren't related to the topic at hand. 4chan's boards all tend to be stupidly hateful, even the smaller, more condensed and obscure ones. I forget what point I was originally making.
