Posted 18 Sep 2013 I was at kaffles' house and I went to the gas station for a Charleston Chew, and I found a flock of geese just hanging around on the side of the road, waiting for a chance to cross. And lo, did they cross, in single file. Slowly. BUT THEN THE CARS CAME and lo, did those geese go about their merry way. Slowly. And I was like dude you can fly, what are you doing. Where are you even going? Picture of my haircut: I went to a Macdo with kaffles once, and they had a big display case with various McDonald's toys from over the years. My friends took me to go to a club one night to listen to some old school house music, but this was like in January so this is trés late. There was Chicago House and Jazzy House and Vocal House, pretty much the oldin'est sounding house music ever, but it was cool. There was even a rising underground house producer guy there. Since this was on Delmar Loop in St. Louis, there are two things that are assumed about the area's contents: 1) There are a lot of gay people. I have learned to wear bulkier clothes so as to not get hit on. 2) The bathrooms look like this. I have taken to calling these "video game bathrooms", and broken mirrors (which these establishments also tend to have) "video game mirrors", because it always seems that in video games, the mirrors and windows are blocked off so the developers don't have to render anything extra, or because the protagonist is faceless. Also, these bathrooms are charming. There's a lot of personality here. It's almost classy. An open community. (I traced this as best as I could since my camera sux) I also took a picture of the turntables they had set up using this thing called control vinyl, which is essentially vinyl-based turntables that actually just use a real vinyl disc without music on it, and the songs are controlled digitally using the tables as a controller. Which defeats the purpose, I think, but whatever. I'll post it next time. But for now, more bathroom graffiti. Gilded Grace and Teto like this
Posted 19 Sep 2013 I wont do a proper post for pictures taken around Athens (here for the third time, this time for the wedding of my brother who lives here, who I had been visiting the last two times I came). Moved into our proper hotel. The view from the rooftop garden is decent. . Eka, pheonix561 and Sahaqiel like this
Posted 19 Sep 2013 You're in Greece right now? Are there still riots everywhere?
Posted 20 Sep 2013 Naw I fixed the economy on Monday. Told them all to get a grip. Problem solved. But actually my brother was saying that there might have been riots starting up in one area of town, way out of the way of where I am. Was a strike going on somewhere near the hotel too, and some of the roads were blocked off to traffic. The riot I mentioned, which may or may not have actually happened, was to do with some guy being killed by that Neo-Nazi group Golden Dawn, or so I gather. Not sure if it did happen, and if it did it wasn't anywhere near us. More cloud pics from up Mount Lycabettus. Eka likes this
Posted 20 Sep 2013 Yeah I've heard of neo-nazi groups taking rise in greece. A lot of it apparently comes from how hitler had a scapegoat while he was rebuilding germany's economy, and people are looking at that and going "hey maybe if we imitate his method?" Which is pretty sad, but also shows just how desperate people are getting to get greece back together. Which might be sadder.

Posted 21 Sep 2013 Golden Dawn is simultaneously regarded as a fascist terrorist organisation and a legitimate political party. They have like, 16 seats in the Greece parliament. Currently (or just recently), there are anti-fascist protests going on due to recent actions taken by Golden Dawn, such as murdering a prominent anti-fa musician (which police actually witnessed and did nothing about). The police ended up protecting the Golden Dawn headquarters, and many of them are sympathetic to the Golden Dawn cause. It is hardly surprising that the Greek police once again did nothing to prevent Golden Dawn’s fascist violence (Golden Dawn is largely supported by the Greek capitalists, the government and the church, as a willful thug against militants, workers and the poor, and more than half of the police vote for this openly neo-Nazi party) if not actively participating in or covering the organisation of what looks as a death trap for a well-known radical, member of the metalworkers union and antifa hip-hop artist in a working class district, near the spot where a few days ago eight members of the communist party (KKE) were also brutally assaulted by Golden Dawn neo-Nazis. Sorry for this post, I've just been keeping up with fascism in europe for a bit so if you have questions feel free to ask and I'll try to answer from what I know or what I can find out. pheonix561 likes this
Posted 21 Sep 2013 Good lord its unsettling that there's a Neo Nazi party and a Communist party and both of them take to open warfare on the streets of Greece. I knew greece was bad but I had no idea it was that bad. I'm honestly scared for greece's future right now.
Posted 21 Sep 2013 There's nothing wrong with communist parties, it isn't fascism. Communism doesn't use violence as the end. The real issue is that the ruling establishment and the police support Golden Dawn, and the ruling establishment actually use golden dawn rhetoric as a way to cling to power. The government is now saying they are looking at taking action to ban these groups, but it's really vague and the fears are that the government will use these powers to oppress the left wing groups. And then if anti-fa'ers protest the police brutally curtail them and the media demonises them as left wing scare tactics, but when Golden Dawn does this shit it's often done with a police escort. Posted 21 Sep 2013 In less depressing news, there was a cricket in my room. I caught it and let it outside. Our garage is kind of infested with crickets, so when I walk into the garage there's always at least one in my path that I don't notice, so it freaks out and hits me right in the bare leg, which is the freakiest feeling ever and doesn't end well for them because I practically fling them across the room.
