Doctor Who Trivia

In honor of the upcoming 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" I thought I'd post some interesting Doctor Who trivia.

The Doctor's T.A.R.D.I.S is a Museum piece "Type 40" model he stole (but according to the T.A.R.D.I.S herself she stole him)

The T.A.R.D.I.S is supposed to disguise itself as some mundane object befitting the timeframe it lands in, however the malfunctioning Chameleon Circuit keeps it a Police Box

Before his Time Lord lineage was revealed, the Doctor's Granddaughter Susan claimed that she came up with the acronym T.A.R.D.I.S, this contradicts later series where all Timelords call their ship by that name

In a deleted scene from "The Journey's End" the Metacrisis Doctor is given a piece of T.A.R.D.I.S Coral. It is implied that they are grown in vast beds near the untempered Schism on Gallifrey, this explains their time travel properties

Like the Doctor the T.A.R.D.I.S "Regenerates" after it suffers significant damage

The T.A.R.D.I.S is so massive that entire worlds exist within. There's also a vast wardrobe of men's and women's clothes, a swimming pool, library and even a kitchen....somewhere

According to the BBC the T.A.R.D.I.S must be the same blue color all the time across all merchandise. The Blue color is Pantone 2955C. They even tried to copyright the color, to no avail

An uncloaked T.A.R.D.I.S has never been seen but an unused description from "The End of Time" says "the T.A.R.D.I.S is a massive living ship made up of spheres of varying size....". A fan on Deviant art created this blueprint

As I mentioned above, The T.A.R.D.I.S is a living ship that has an almost psychic ability to tell when bad things are happening. She even told the Doctor that she travels "not where he wants to go, but rather where he needs to be".

Post #2: The Doctor Who TV Movie

After Doctor Who was cancelled in 1989 There was an attempt to revive it in America, on the Fledgling Fox Network. Needless to say it didn't go over to well

Sylvester McCoy returned for a brief cameo as the 7th Doctor. He was soon shot and Regenerated into Paul McGann's 8th Doctor

In the opening of the film we see The Master's execution at the hands of the Daleks, for some reason the Doctor is attending (even though the Daleks are his mortal enemies)

The Master's "soul" escapes and merges with a guy named Bruce, played by actor Eric Roberts who is the brother of Julia Roberts and father of Emma Roberts

His companions for the film are Dr. Grace Holloway, the Cardiovascular surgeon who operated on him and Chang Lee an Asian American hustled who called an ambulance for him when he was shot. At the conclusion of the film he invites them to travel with him, but they decline

The film was meant to be a pilot episode for a co-produced American/British series, while it was a modest success abroad it tanked in America and no further adventures featuring the 8th Doctor were made.

The 8th Doctor and Grace Holloway return in "Doctor Who Prisoners of Time" issue #8. Set several months after the film Grace decides to go with the Doctor and they see many sights before landing on the Planet Brendis and help the natives rebel against invaders called "Overseers". Grace is then kidnapped (like all of the Doctors companions) by Adam a former companion introduced in "Dalek" (Series One, Episode Six) and abandoned in the next episode "The Long Game"

Paul McGann finally reprises the role of the 8th Doctor after nearly twenty years in the short episode "Night of the Doctor". Here we see his Regeneration into the unnumbered "War Doctor" played by John Hurt
