So i just got the Wii U version after buying 2 of my friends the 3DS versions. We played it for a good 2 1/2- 3 hours tonight and it was a BLAST! I was really scared that my friends wouldnt like it, since it's a slow start. a very, very slow start. But luckily we skipped all that and when straight the multiplayer. We are all hooked, playing til almost 2:30 am. We are gonna go back and do the starting quests though.

So yeah, add ForeverSpooky on Wii U if you wanna play with me. Im currently trying out dual blades. Otherwise, share tips and tricks, memories and experiences while playing either version! <3

Oh man, Monhan is definitely a good series. I have not picked up a 3DS ever, but I know that I'll probably get a 2DS when its time for Monhan 4 to come out.

Like I said, I have 2 local friends to play with, but itd be cool if we had an Hnet team. Although I guess most of us dont have a Wii U.

I have a friend who plays. Actually, I first introduced him to monhan with tri on my wii years ago, and he had a ridiculous time trying to master the greatsword while hunting jaggis. That was the last I knew of him being involved in monhan until he visited over the summer and brought his personal wii u, and showed off his 300+ hours in ultimate including a bunch of gear from monsters I'd never even seen. Apparently the new monster, the one with exploding green fists, has ridiculously overpowered weapons and gear?

Yeah I also heard that the fist monster has super OP gear. Thats really cool. Im so itching to play right now except my parents are having the living room painted and im stuck in my room with a standard deff TV. It's almost IMPOSSIBLE for me to play Monhan not in HD, since the font is so small and tiny, even in great quality.

Why not play on the gamepad? I did this while I was at my friend's house and another friend brought over his Wii U and left for the day. I got him materials to make, like, two swords and upgrade three of his swords. I don't remember the text being hard to read. It actually looked really great on the gamepad.

It was funny though, because I wanted to get him some rare material from the Barioth and my friend, Dan, who has the 3DS version of the game was busy doing something else, so I'm like "WELL, I'M GONNA FIGHT THE ONLINE VERSION BY MYSELF" and he's like "It can't be that hard" and I respond "It has at least double its health." I had to do this because the friend who left didn't have the quest on single player unlocked yet and I didn't want to just go forward through the game and not give him the chance to do the big stuff. Anyway, so that fight took me 42 of the 50 minutes. I cut off his tail, broke his fangs, broke both his wings, used up every single health potion, ration, meat, whetstone etc. possible, but I did it. It felt great and I was hoping to get just two of the item I needed, but then I got FOUR, probably got it from everything possible on the kitten.

There's my story. Now, let's find out what that item was.

Barioth Spike.

It must've been from the wings. I must've gotten two Spikes from each wing break, 'cause nothing else seems to do it that isn't a carve or a drop or a capture. Rarest, too, at 15% compared to the other two things you can get from the wings. Crazy stuff. Thank you, based Barioth.

Barioth is a fun fight for sure. I think I like the monsters most when they're taking advantage of their environment. Like when you're fighting an Urugaan, in the one particular area where the urugaan will dig under the ground, resurface ontop of a nearby small volcano, and roll around the entire area in an attempt to crush you. Or how the Agnaktor, in the lava caves, will tunnel both above you and below you. Or when the Barroth rolls around in the giant mud puddle. When you're fighting them on their home turf, I guess you could say.

The Barroth is the most adorable thing when he's rolling around in the mud.

I vividly remember one day you were sitting in irc with me and we were playing monhan tri together, and my grandma was watching us play and sitting on the couch with me marveling at the miracles of modern videogames and how I can be talking with you on irc and playing monhan with oyu at the same time, and we were standing around in the city getting ready to leave on a hunting trip, and you got impatient and started prancing, and my grandma says to me "Tell Anthony he looks like a fag when he does that." No matter how many times I relay that story nobody believes it. I even remember you responded with "tell your grandma she's a respectable lady."

Text my friend sent me from when I asked him, "go into game options before you load a character and choose game type 2."

It's really convenient. Especially when you're too lazy to hook the Wii U up to the TV 2 feet away and just wanna play on the gamepad.
