Current Middle-Eastern tensions

I admit I'm not informed as to exactly what's up, but this is all pretty horrible. Any input? I was just watching this video and kind of shaking my head.

The more I learn about what happens in global politics, the more I wonder how it came to be that literal psychopaths rule the world.

Its so frustrating because there is literally nothing we can do... We are the allies of the people committing massacres on innocent civilians. The only end to this that doesn't involve the united states changing up its foreign policy DRASTICALLY is for Palestine to resume its place under the Jackboot of Israel, subject to its whims and wishes.

Israel was and is still a terrible idea, and they are terrible.

Even after seeing that whole video, and all the TV news coverage I've caught, I can't even begin to get into a debate in favor of either side of this conflict. I'm not informed enough. So I won't.

All I know is that thousands of people are needlessly suffering, and this video, this particular example of reporting by the Young Turks, rubs me all the wrong ways, and I personally just don't like it. No, I hate it. All the sarcasm, emotion, and most of all the bloody details, which have no relevance to the politics or psychology of the situation and are solely included to elicit an emotional response and heighten one's reaction to everything else. This video isn't even remotely objective, it's full of emotion, is admittedly progressive in its view, and insists on painting people as simply being sadistic monsters and cold-hearted liars when nothing is ever so simple no matter how much we might wish it could be. These Young Turk fellows are too busy being offended to be objective reporters, and I like to make up my own mind, not be handed The Truth by a bunch of people trying to ride their emotion into my heart. If you're a fan of this unfiltered, earnest, and honest style of reporting, that's fine, it has its merits, but people trying to manipulate me into feeling their anger or frustration is one of my biggest pet-peeves. Some great points are made about how needless this violence seems, but no matter how right they might be, I can't take these Young Turks seriously if this is their style.

Sorry I went off on a tangent about my preferred style of journalism instead of the actual topic of the thread.

Its definitely not very objective. I think that's why he stops so often to bring up sources, because otherwise it would more or less be someone shouting at a camera for half an hour.

Here is an interesting article and video, a bit less emotional, a bit more objective.

I definitely do prefer the style and presentation of that interview and article more. It's from an interesting perspective too.

The only article about it I've ever read: http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/peter-schwartz-responds-to-brian-enos-open-letter-on-israelgaza-crisis-9643922.html

Good commentary.

[joke] I don't know what all the worry about the Middle-Earthen crisis though tbh; we all know Smaug gets beat at the end and Bilbo gets home safe.

But at the end of day, isn't it all just a prelude to the return of Morgoth?

The conflict between Israel and Hamas can be summed up in two simple truths. Israel is trying to minimize civilian casualties on both sides. Hamas is trying to maximize civilian casualties on both sides.

Didn't Israel like, bomb a neutral school because the school had "secret missiles"

pretty sure thats a bunch of bull shit. Both sides are in it to win it and it doesnt seem like they are holding any punches recently.

Israel arent the "good guys" and Palestine arent the "bad guys"

It's all relative. They both suck.

Though, based on my *limited* knowledge of this war, Israel seems to be in the wrong. like they shouldnt be a country to being with. Like i said, i dunno a whole lot, but it seems like a bunch of people (Americans) are looking at this from a religious perspective rather than a rational one.

Also, why would Hamas want to "maximize" their OWN civilian casualties? Like, i dont understand this. Please explain.

There's actually a lot of evidence coming out that the school bombing was staged by Hamas, and the bomb actually struck outside the school building and unrelated bodies were dragged inside the school building to try to make it look like the school was bombed.

Isreal was established on land that had been previously owned by the British and where Jewish communities had been living for centuries. After which they were continuously attacked by their neighbors and they successfully defended themselves each time. They actually won land in those battles, but returned much of it to the countries that had attacked them. In what way should Israel not be a country?

Hamas wants to maximize civilian casualties so they can play the victim on the world stage to garner sympathy. And people are clearly falling for it.
