...how like-likes (the shield eating monsters from OoT, MM, and LoZ) got their name? As far as i can tell, there's no logic behind why they're called like-likes.

Because they... like things?

I don't know, I always thought that they were "like-likes" because they like shields and tunics...

That's what I always thought... but then, I never really stopped to question it.

I remember reading somewhere-I think it was the description for a trophy for Melee-about a Like Like. It said something about a mistranslation which is why the people of Hyrule call them Like Likes; that's all I remember.

Maybe its because they are perverted creatures that like to eat Link's tunic so they can see him nude. :D

Just a thought....

I think the Rupee-Likes were created before the Like-Likes, and since they look the same, Nintendo decided that they should be in same phylum. Like-Like must of sounded cool to them.

I checked the like-like trophy, and it turns out that TwiliGirl And Chef nonsense are right. The trophy says that the name comes from a mistranslation in the verse that Chef nonsense posted. I guess that solves it.

...

I always thought it came from the way everybody LIKES THEM. And Nintendo didn't think one Like was enough to say how much they're liked, so they put two in its name! LIKE-LIKE. We like it so much, it gets two likes! :D You people who hate them are meanies.

AND THEY'RE SO COOTE.
