Herm, Ganny, I just realized... when the Triforce is whole, it's just called ther Triforce, not the Triforces. Then, remember how the Triforce was "broken" into three when Ganondorf first touched it. Something to think about.

The Triforce is..."mechanically programmed" to break apart upon the touch of a nonbalanced person. This is a "defense mechanism".

The Fused Shadow doesn't have a "defense mechanism". After the whole Twili-trying-to-get-the-Triforce-with-it dispute, the Light Spirits were ordered by the Goddesses to hide it away. They said, "Oh no. We better hide this so no one can use it again." So they shattered it into pieces and hid these pieces in different parts of Hyrule.

The Fused Shadow was physically broken by something other than itself, whereas the Triforce breaks apart to its own accord, due to set rules. Also, notice that the Fused Shadows never fully come back together.

How can there be 4 triforces?

Tri as in triangle. In the originaln LoZ, there were two Triforces. Then, the ToC was introduced. I reccomend the Fourth Piece Discussion for this.

I was going to make this point. In the first Zelda game, there were two Triforces: Wisdom and Power. It was still considered the Triforce. In Adventure of Link, Link acquires the Triforce of Courage, thus making it three.

you are right, in tp you see midna with out anything on her head then she takes out a FS and it does

the same floaty thing like all the others, and goes on to her head.

Not to be the ignorrant one here, but who's Ona? Is she a fourth Great Goddess? And I always thought that there were four Fused Shadows (four Triforces, too, but that's off-topic), and that Midna had the fourth one all along-- that's why her whatchamacallitathingamagig fit so perfectly with the FSs. So, if only three were loose, then there would only be a need for three Spring Spirits to stop them.
