Nintendo is set to release the Wii and Nintendo DS-enabled wireless LAN router, the Nintendo Wi-Fi Network Adapter. It will only be sold on Nintendo's online store starting September 18, 2008 and will retail for 5800 yen plus tax ($54 USD).

It matches Wii's white design. It's more compact than most LAN routers and leaves a fashionable impression.

On the back, LAN and WAN can only be used one at a time. With the Wii-Only LAN Adapter (sold separately), multiple devices can be connected.

Also on the back are the switches for router, bridge and auto mode. Router mode is for normal wireless functions. Bridge mode is used to link the adapter to another router to communicate with Wii or Nintendo DS. In auto mode, it automatically homes in on home networking equipment.

There is no word for release in other regions.

Yes, but in order for the wii to have internet /wirelessly/ it needs a router that supports both wireless and wii. This Wi-Fi router is to garuntee functionality for the wireless internet for wii and ds

Hey, hey Nintendo.
About the peripherals; yeah stop it.

Make the things people actually need.

Agreed. Who doesn't have a wireless router or access point today? If don't, just go buy a Linksys WRT54g. They're like $35 now. Waay better than any nintendo router, especially when you put DD-WRT on it. Though, I do understand the complaints of some as their router doesn't support the Wii. (which just makes no sense what so ever, the wireless protocol is standardized, and a channel change and some tweaks would probably fix it)

I don't, and my parents are the only money making people in the household.
They don't care for it, and if they wanted to pay for a home phone, they would get dial-up.
Think about others.
This would be great, in my opinion.

I have a LAN adapter and a Wi-Fi USB connector. The Wi-Fi adapter is too laggy, but the LAN adapter only works for the Wii.

So I have to interchange them when I want to get good connection speed.

Hopefully, this is at least as marginally good as my LAN adapter.

That thing is awesome, despite sucking.

Guys, when you look at this, what do you REALLY think is more important?

That people aren't going to use it...

Or that it looks like a baby Wii?

I know what I think.

But why would you get this instead of a Linksys WRT54g? This is nothing but a wireless router that they GUARANTEE will work with your Wii. But I know that the WRT54g will work with it too, from experience. (it's what I have)

Actually, can it connect to other Wi-Fi enabled devices? eg. laptops
If not, there is absolutely no advantage in buying one.
