Star Trek!

I went to see Start Trek today. And for the record, I'm a big fan of the original series, so I was skeptical coming into it, of course. But overall, I thought it was a good movie.

Things I didn't care for were the whole "alternate reality" thing, which was basically just an excuse to do whatever they wanted with the storyline without people getting mad at them. Second, the whole Spock-Uhura thing. Sorry, but that just doesn't work, and every scene of them together is extremely high-school dramatic, especially the warp portal make-out.

What I did like? The casting. I think they did a great job recreating the old characters, albeit with slightly altered histories. I thought Chekov was adorable, and Scotty was a nice surprise. I wondered when he was coming along. Though, his accent is different because I think the actor playing him was actually Scottish (James Doohan, the original Scotty, was Canadian).

Anyone else seen it?

First of all, They made out in the Turbolift, there is no such thing as a warp portal. And Simon Pegg who played Mongomery 'Scotty' Scott is british, not scottish. You call yourself a Trek fan!

But I Agree, great movie. The parallel reality thing ruled obviously you've never seen any of the many Trek Episodes dealing with the phenomena. TOS' "Alternative Factor" being one.

Didn't like the Spock and Uhura thing, though. e.e''

Made no sense.

Actually it made perfect sense. In TOS Spock entered into the Vulcan Science Academy and purged himself of all emotion, But in the Alternate Reality established in 'Trek' he decided to forgo this and enrolled in Starfleet instead. The result being his emotional outburst at Kirk, pain over his mothers death and of course his love for Uhura.
