As of today Friday 102607, Wii has surpassed 13 million in worldwide console sales with almost 13.5 million consoles sold, earning 43.4% of total home console market share. Microsoft's Xbox 360 is in second place with 12.34 million (39.7%), and Sony's PLAYSTATION 3 last with 5.23 million (16.8%). Wii Sports, a bundled game in all markets except Japan, has sold 124,410 copies in North America, translating to the same number of Wii consoles sold in that region. Wii has sold 3.6 million units over the past summer.

Wii goes for $249.99 in the United States, 249 Euros in the Europe, and 25,000 Yen in Japan; Xbox 360's starting prices in NA, EU and Japan respectively are $299.99, 299.99 Euros, and 29,000 Yen. PLAYSTATION 3's starting prices in each region are $399.99, 399.99 Euros, and 49,980 Yen. Sony has announced a 40GB version of the PS3 without backwards compatibility for North America November 2.

The Nintendo DS has sold 53.17 million units worldwide, compared to Sony's Playstation Portable's 24.91 million.

Iwata expects Wii's recently lagging sales in Japan to surge this holiday season on three major releases: Wii Fit, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Wii Fit is scheduled for release December 1, 2007, Super Mario Galaxy November 1, 2007, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl January 24, 2008.

Iwata also announced a feature to send games to friends over the Internet via Wii Shop Channel. "We think this will be a breakthrough in encouraging customers to spread news of fun games word of mouth. We also hope to spur more users to connect their Wiis to the Internet."

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has announced that Wii is scheduled for a 2008 release in China. Iwata also stated that because Nintendo still struggles to meet Wii demand (1.8 million consoles produced every month), "we're absolutely not considering a price cut."

Lastly, Iwata hinted at a lack of Wii consoles in stock this holiday season when announcing Wii's launch in China: "We barely have enough Wiis to meet global demand this year. But next year, we can bring the Wii to China," Iwata said.
