Nintendo has been turning heads at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, its current generation hardware interfaces being awarded an Emmy for excellence in engineering creativity.

------

Control systems for both the Wii and DS have drawn widespread acclaim, and the award was recognition for Nintendo's pioneering work in the field. It's the second year in a row that Nintendo has been heralded at the Technological & Engineering Emmy Awards, having won an award last year for the invention of the D-pad, which laid the groundwork for generations of games, as well as being applied in other fields.

Don James, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of operations, said of the honour, "The pioneering interfaces for Wii and Nintendo DS reflect our long tradition of seeking new ways to enhance the gaming experience for users at every level. We're grateful for this award and thank the academy for honoring us a second time."
