Seventy weeks after its release on November 19, 2006, Wii surpassed 10 million units sold in North America, making it the fastest console to reach the ten million mark in the region's history.

------

For comparison's sake, Nintendo's previous console, the Nintendo GameCube, took well over three years to reach the same mark. The Playstation 2, the highest selling console in history, took eighty-four weeks to sell ten million units.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 took 109 weeks before selling ten million consoles in North America, now at 11.3 million units. The only current generation console that has yet to reach this threshold is Sony's Playstation 3, which is at 4.38 million units in North America (11.4 million worldwide).
