Actually...a website can call itself anything, and acronyms can be used for any item they wish. GCN is what some people call the GameCube for short, as in Nintendo Power. GC can also be used, but it somehow sounds like a less official term. As for the website...what is it a website for? There are some websites whose names have nothing to do with anything.

I found that the GCN website is actually short for Government Computer News. So it's an acronym. BUT-- type GCN on Google, and it turns out that GCN is short for a number of things. Genesis Communication Network, Global Communications Network, Gospel Communications Network, Gamma-ray Burst Coordination Network, Georgia Center for Nonprofits...... Then type in Nintendo GCN, and it will come up with a whole bunch of GameCube stuff. So, yes, while GCN stands for a number of things, it also means GameCube.
