Celtic Pronounciation

Just curious. I've heard it both ways.

And yes, my... whatever you call it when you spell words differently to show how they're pronounced, is improper. Bear in mind I'm dead tired right now.

As a Celt, and the descendent of many more, KNOW that it is pronounced keltic.

seltic is how you pronounce the name of a famous scottish football/soccer team.

I say it correctly. Keltic, as in the Book of Kells.

Kell-tick because, I don't know, I'm thinking that pronouncing words the way they're supposed to be makes sense.

I know the "proper" pronunciation is "kell-tic", but I've always pronounced it "sell-tic", as have most people I know. When I moved to the other side of the country, though, everybody pronounced it "kell-tic". Regardless of what is proper or improper, it's going to be pronounced differently in different areas. I could really care less about the culture, so I'm not concerned with pronouncing it any certain way. tuh-mey-toh, tuh-mah-toh.

What! There's a wrong way to say it!? I've never heard it pronounced as kell-tick.

Also there's a baskettball team called the Boston Celtics. Everyone I've ever met, or talk too, pronounces it as sell-ticks.
