Contraception

Ok, this is a continuation of a post in a different topic. And this time it is going to be actually educational.

There are several types of contraception, here are the major ones:

  • Condom, a thin layer of latex (or more recently, polyurethane) that is designed to prevent semen entering the cervix. It also prevents the spread of most STDs. Latex condoms are the most widely used, latex being incredibly strong. More recently polyurethane has been used, it is thinner, and has better heat conducting properties, it is however, more prone to breakage. The benefits of using a condom far out weigh the minimal disadvantages not using it. There also less used femidoms, but they have failed to take off and sales are less then 1% of regular condoms
  • The Pill. A hormonal pill that is designed to prevent ovulation and, consequently, pregnancy. The disadvantage of the pill is that it does not prevent STDs. It also may produce side-effects.
  • Emergency Contraception. Often considered a last-chance method, EC is taken after sex. It is advised not to be used as a substitute for other, pre-fertilization, methods of contraception. It also causes extreme nausea, this often making girls prefer to not have to resort to it.

These are it, there are more, probably.

I go for the Condom, latex allergies are rare, and I'd prefer not to put the girl through possible side-effects.

But what do you think?

I heard pills arent as effective anymore.

Condom are risky if they break.

Its usually reccomended that you use two forms of contraception, with one being a backup method in case the other fails.

As for the pill, there are more benefits to it than just contraception. They can be used to control severe acne for women, alleviate severe abdominal cramps (since it keeps you from ovulating alltogether), and it has actually been shown in studies to reduce the risk of breast, uterin, and ovarian cancer. :D

Its also an unseen form of birth control. This may sound outlandish, but some women don't really have a choice when it comes to condoms (i.e.: the husband is in control of using it, and the women is dependent on his authority..), and birth control can be taken in many countries without the husband's consent, which is a huge milestone for women living in places like India.

It does however have some side effects. I took it for about a year to help regulate severe abdominal pain (I'm talking contractions three times the magnitude most women have during labor X_x), but it did make me sick to my stomach and would give headaches at times, so I stopped using it after I began to have less severe pain.

Either way, its a pretty great invention for women.. so I say go pill!

Hey, I have pretty bad acne, maybe I should take it? :D

Thank you Farores Wind, I didn't really do that much research into it.

As for the condoms, it depends on whether you get a latex or polyurethane one. Polyurethane ones are better if you are only interested in the pleasure, but not the consequences. Latex ones are far stronger, but are slightly thicker.

Condom tidbit:- A latex condom can stretch to 800% before breaking.

My brother shot me with nerf balls. 3 of them.

The last one had a condom around it.

....Aaaaaanyway...

I'd say Condom with the backup of the pill.

Aatch maybe you should just make one topic and post new themes on it, instead of making so many new ones.

If you don't like these sex-based topics, just avoid them, okay? I think Aatch's topics are fun, because I can talk with people my age about sex, and I can ask any questions I wouldn't dare asking my dad, for example.

BoomByeBye, I have not had sex, and if you think about it, this topic is actually educational. Like Farore, I have read a lot, and I talk to people that are, say, more informed?

Anyway, I'm a firm believer in the need to know about such things. I have yet to post anything that is particularly racy, though if you continue to complain, I might out of spite.

Look at Relean, he is too embarrassed to talk to his parents, but is more comfortable talking to us guys. From a girls point of view, can you imagine talking to your parents about it?

Girl - "Dad, what should I do about contraception?"

Dad - "Why do you want to know? Are you having sex? You're grounded for a month!"

You see the problem? Whereas this allows people to ask questions and discuss.

P.S. If you really want, I might make a really racy, possibly bordering on pornographic topic.

P.P.S. This will sound stupid, but what do you mean Farore? You can PM me the answer or enlighten the rest of us.

I'm not too embarrassed to talk about sex with my parents, but I can't picture myself asking: "Hey dad, is it more difficult for a girl to masturbate than it is for a guy?"

At first, I thought the pill would be good, but as I learnt about it a bit more, it does have its fair share of nasty side-effects. To some women it almost completley kills their sex drive, which is a big problem!

but also, I would leave the decision to use or not use the pill up to the girl. Condoms work fine with me, I'm happy with them, but if the girl wants to be extra safe and use the pill too, its no big deal for me.

Though condoms arnt perfect either. I've had them break on me.

All forms of contraceptions have their pro's and con's, but I guess its just up to the people involved in the act to decide upon.

And farore, please keep the comments appropriate. I thought it was funny, but yeah its kind of on the borderline...
