What are some good Halloween/Horror movies?

I was just thinking about Halloween coming up and all, and having no clue what to do. What are some of your favourite films that would be good to watch on All Hallows Eve? Horror, comedy, drama, musical, whatever.

I have a few on my list, but I've watched them recently enough that I won't be watching them this time. Will post more detailed descriptions soon.

----

Cabin Fever: Low budget film about a group of people who go on vacation to a remote cabin. One of them gets a really infectious flesh-eating disease. It's disgusting, but also hilarious at times and the ending is quite memorable.

Dead Snow: Norwegian movie about a group of medical students who go on a ski vacation and get attacked by Nazi zombies. Notable for having fairly smart people as the victims, some of whom have some pretty badass moments.

Tokyo Gore Police: The Tokyo police has been privatized and become far more brutal, and wages war with the "engineers", genetically modified criminals who can turn their open wounds into weapons. It's a bloody fun time to be hadd, but not for the overly squeamish.

From Dusk Till Dawn: This one seems to switch genres halfway through the movie, but that's what I love about it. The movie could have been just about two outlaws who kidnap a family, but instead when they hide out in a Mexican bar in the middle of nowhere... let's just say things get a little interesting.

30 Days of Night: Set in the far north in Alaska, at the time of year when the sun doesn't rise for a whole month, a small town is attacked by vampires. Similar to the above example, the action sets in a little late, but I enjoyed the build-up. The movie can be uneven at times, but I liked having more feral vampires that can be genuinely scary.,There was also some pretty good suspense, and the acting is better than your average horror fare.

Shaun of the Dead: You've probably seen it, or heard of it. It's a romantic comedy with zombies. If you haven't seen it, do so immedately.

Zombieland: Another one you've probably seen. I was surprised to find it really enjoyable despite the glut of zombie stuff that was everywhere in pop culture at the time it was released.

Repo: The Genetic Opera: This one's a little tough to summarize. Basically, it's a rock opera set in this dystopian future where there's been a pandemic of organ failures. This has forced people to turn to Geneco, a company specialising in organ replacement. The problem is, when a payment is missed, Geneco sends a Repo Man to reclaim your organs. It's a love-it-or-hate it kind of movie, and I personally love it.

I've heard a lot of things about Rubber. A tire goes around killing people. For contrast, I think I would watch that classic Artful movie "The Red Balloon" first, since it's only a half an hour, and then watch Rubber.

Ringu is a tried and true favorite.

man, that /grinding/ noise aaaa

though sayu is probably gonna get on and mention how cute i apparently am watching horror movies :<

i love them, but im a total chicken. you know the beginning of the horror movies, where the characters make one stupid move--eg, going into the haunted house, watching the cursed movie, etc? id never find myself in that situation. "cursed movie?! no, puppy that, i aint watching and you cant make me!"

also, "Hair extensions" idk how it is, but i bought it for the title.

Maximum Overdrive

Earth passes through the tail of a comet, and that somehow makes the machines all tired of our shit, so they turn on us. The first (and last) film to be directed by Stephen King. Also, the soundtrack is composed entirely of AC/DC, so there's that too. yeaaaaaaah.

I remember watching the original Halloween movie when I was in Finland. Good times. They don't usually celebrate Halloween there, but I just had some friends over and we wore silly costumes, ate candy and watched Halloween.

Yes, yes she was. Did you see the Nostalgia Chick's recent review of the movie?

I'm not really a fan of the Horror genre, I never saw much point in sacrificing plot for meaningless gore (looking at you "Saw" and "Final Destination"). But I did enjoy the Paranormal Activity series and Insidious. And of course the biting (pun intended) social commentary of the George Romero "Dead" movies are timeless and enjoyable.

the first saw movie was fine. the others were all tourture-porn whores. i watched 3.5 of them. also why i cant listen to caramell dansen--theres only so many screams you can handle over its happy happy music, and times you glance at the TV to see if theyre done raping the main characters mind yet, before you start to associate it to the song.and final destination is just lol to watch for just how /out there/ the deaths can get.

Haven't seen Final Destination, but I wouldn't say that Saw was a bad movie. I quite enjoyed it, and it's one of the scarier movies for me. It never felt like they were sacrificing plot for gore. It was more like the gore was an integral part of the plot.
