Have you beaten the second quest on the original Zelda?

I have, but I got killed so many times my death count maxed at 255 and wouldn't go any higher. Dungeon 4 was the cause of most of these deaths.

I got the blue ring and all the hidden heart containers at the beginning of the game...

Well, I had all that stuff too, but I still did horribly. The only thing I was missing at the time was the power bracelet, which does nothing in dungeons. What really got me in dungeons were those red bubbles, though. I get hit by one, then I have to go through the dungeon looking for a blue bubble to un-jinx me. Madness, I tell you.

After you beat the original Legend of Zelda once, the game allows you to continue the file on a second quest with a re-arranged overworld and harder dungeons.

or you could name your file ZELDA and start the second quest immediatly
