I'm not sure if anyone has talked about Gotham, personally I gave up after the first episode but was talked back into giving it a chance by my Sister Judy who has never even cracked open a comic and has no clue about the source material. After the initial slump the series did improve thankfully. I like the "Before Batman" feel of the show and am planning to binge watch this weekend. I would like to see a fast forward scene in the season finale with older Bruce in the Batcave but that is just wishful thinking.

  2. I forgot yesterday so today is an obscure Avengers twofer.

    First up

    Yellowjacket

After Hank Pym quit the Avengers, unable to contend with the violence he went back to his University research when he was killed in an explosion. During the investigation the Avengers discovered that it was murder. Tracking the killer they found a costumed individual calling himself Yellowjacket. Yellowjacket briefly tussled with the group then escaped, a short time later he began to systematically hunt down and kill the members of the deadly serpent society. Hunting Yellowjacket down the Avengers learned a startling secret, he was Hank Pym. Hank caused the explosion and took on the Yellowjacket persona to imprison the members of the Serpent society in a micro prison called The "Big House". When Pym retired the Yellowjacket persona and became Ant-Man again a woman named Rita DeMara took on the persona, first as a villainous member of the Masters of Evil then seeing her error became a Hero, she was later killed by Iron Man while in the control of Immortis.

In the Ant-Man movie the Scott Lang Ant-Man will face the Yellowjacket who is Darren Cross the CEO of Pym Industries (Cross Technological Enterprises).

Next we have Eros aka Starfox (no not that one)

Eros is a member of the Alien race called The Eternals whose home is Saturn's moon Titan. Eros is the younger brother of the mad titan Thanos and violently opposes his megalomania. Calling himself Starfox he joins Earth's Mightiest Heroes in their battles against his brother.

  3. I had my dad bring me my Nintendo DSi and my Game boy games and I began playing Minish Cap today. Amazingly my years old save file was still playable, I'll say this for Nintendo they build these tiny cartridges to last!

Did you enjoy this rather unique entry in the Zelda series?

  4. Another favorite Pokemon of mine is Keldeo

    keldeo_v_3_by_xous54-d4bqwjb.png

Partially because he was inspired by Charles de Batz Castelmore d'Artagnan from The Three Musketters.

In fact all the "Swords of Justice" are inspired by the Musketters.

    Swords-of-Justice-pokemon-32387966-1280-

Porthos (Terrakion), Athos (Cobalion) and Aramis (Virizion)

  5. Kyle Rayner was the Green Lantern when I was coming into comics. When Hal Jordan returned during the Paralax event that was when I discovered that there was more than one Earth Lantern (2814). I bought a trade paperback at Barnes and Noble and learned more about Hal Jordan and even Alan Scott the Golden age lantern and his very weird outfit.

Nice Red Shirt you got there....ummm Green Lantern!?

  6. Another day closer to Age of Ultron, another Obscure Avenger!

    Today...

    Wonder Man (Simon Williams)

Simon Williams was the son of a rich industrialist named Sanford Williams. His company Williams Innovations was the US Government's go to for weapons, Until Stark Industries. In no time Williams Innovations was in the toilet and Simon and his brother Eric embezzled money to keep themselves in the black, the SEC discovers this and Eric is arrested. Blaming Tony Stark for everything Simon accepts an offer for revenge and undergoes a procedure by Baron Zemo and is transformed into a being of pure Ionic energy dubbed Wonder Man by Zemo he seeks out stark and the Avengers under the guise of a new recruit and lures them into a trap. Simon has a change of heart seeing the unity and friendship of the group and saves Stark and the Avengers.

Simon then collapses and fades away into nothingness due to the unstable nature of the Ion Matrix. After Eric is paroled and learns of Simon's death he swears revenge becoming the Villain Grim Reaper.

However Simon wasn't dead, his body slipped into another dimension while the Ions restructured themselves. Simon returned to our reality and joined the Avengers officially as Wonder Man

  7. Welcome back to Lesser known Avengers, today we will highlight another Avenger who should appear in some fashion in the MCU.

    Amadeus Cho aka Mastermind Excello

Amadeus Cho is a very gifted Teenager, a genius on the level of Tony Stark. He enters a contest sponsored by the Excello Soap Company and easily wins. However the contest was a fake set up by Pythagoras Dupree who upon discovering Cho's genius had the boys home blown up killing his parents, Cho survived and went on the run. Amadeus has been an integral part of many events, he United a team of Hulk's allies to try and reason with him during World War Hulk, While he is just a human he is very intelligent, frighteningly so Reed Richards claims that he is the seventh most intelligent person (now eighth as Hank Pym has returned) he is even thought by Hercules to be more intelligent than Hephaestus (a claim the Immortal inventor accepts as truth). He can solve mathematical equations faster than a computer and has an eidetic memory.

Amadeus' entry into the MCU might be forthcoming however because a character who will appear in Avengers Age of Ultron played by Actress Claudia Kim is named Helen Cho. Helen is also the name of Amadeus' Mother.

  8. They don't care about comic continuity in an animated series. They had already introduced Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern in the DCAU continuity a few years earlier in Superman the Animated series.

They chose to ignore that in favor of Stewart to add diversity to the cast.

  9. Marvel is teaming up with John Ridley the Academy Award winning writer of 12 Years a Slave on a new television series based on one of their properties (this has nothing to do with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, it's spinoff or any of the Netflix series). I'm hoping for Moon Knight or maybe even Cloak and Dagger (the latter seems more likely because of the frequent mentions of Roxxon Energy Corporation whose own Super Soldier research "birthed" the crime fighting couple).

  10. Apparently Warner brothers and DC are planning to give Green Lantern another try after the regrettable film a few years back. However instead of centering it on Alan Scott, Hal Jordon or Kyle Rayner the decision has been made to showcase John Stewart presumably in a similar mindset that was the reason for his inclusion in the Animated Justice League series, to add some diversity to the team. I like this idea, I was never a big Jordan fan (I liked the comical nature of Rayner better) and liked Phil LaMarr's portrayal of him in the series.

This is a Watermelon....however it is not actually a member of the Melon family, it is a Berry.

This is a Strawberry, however it is not a berry. It's official designation is an "Accessory Fruit".

  12. With the forthcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron I thought we might dive into the depths of the ever expanding Avengers Roster to highlight the lesser known Avengers.

As if the water based puns above were any indication today we will highlight:

    Stingray

    Real Name: Walter Newell

Walter Newell was an oceanographer working for the United States Government and meets Namor the Sub-Mariner and his lover Lady Dorma while supervising the construction of an underwater facility farming on the ocean floor. Newell aids Namor in battle against The Plunderer and becomes an ally. He helps Namor again in battle against Tiger Shark but is later ordered to capture Namor when it is revealed that water from Earth's ocean is being stolen by Aliens with Namor's aid. Creating a suit modeled after a Manta Ray Newell as Stingray captures his friend and believing him innocent lets him escape. Stingray, Namor and Triton of the Inhumans discover that Attuma framed Namor and after he sinks an ocean liner they defeat him.

Newell has no powers of his own but designed and built a battle suit very similar to Iron Man, however instead of metal it is constructed of an artificial flexible Cartilage for buoyancy. The cybernetics in the suit augment his strength and durability to superhuman levels and survive the crushing depths of the ocean. His suit also has an ability to electronically "Sting" with up to 20,000 volts.

  13. A couple years ago I started a draft of this story that I had intended to make into a Marvel One-Shot style short film. It is told from the perspective of a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent and details an incident that occurred after The Battle of New York.

    S.H.I.E.L.D case file #616

This is the After action report of Agent Clay Quartermain S.H.I.E.L.D ID number 121967.

Not long after the Chutauri Invasion of New York City the Monitor station in the Triskelion uncovered a video that had been uploaded to the Social Network website ViewTube. The video was recorded days before the invasion inside the Walls of the Crestview Mental Health Center. The patient referred to as Bob in the description was taped by an unidentified security guard warning of an impending Alien Attack and their subsequent defeat at the hands of several individuals

    The Soldier
    The Knight
    The Archer
    The Spy
    The Ogre
    The Thunder God

When the video was revealed to be genuine I was ordered to seek out this man Bob aka "Patient 9-2000" accompanying me on the Mission was Agent Abigail Brand.

We left the Triskelion and drove from New York to Vermont and met with The director of the facility Dr. Erica Sondheim.

Agent Brand questioned Dr. Sondheim and we were told that Patient 9-2000 was admitted as a John Doe in 2008. He was arrested in Boston Massachusetts harassing people and rambling about the Iron Knight (it was later discovered that Tony Stark was Alive and escaped the Terrorist group The 10 Rings via a prototype Iron Man Suit).

During a period of lucidity "John Doe" revealed his name as Bob and said that an era of great change was upon us

"The Knight is but the first. More will come The Soldier, The Archer, The Spy, The Ogre and The Thunder God will unite to serve the One-Eyed Eagle."

Needless to say I was shaken to hear him say One-Eyed Eagle, Director Fury's call sign. We asked to see Bob and when we approached he seemed to know who we were.

"So the Eagle sends his chicks to Shield me huh?" He asked.

"Why would you say that Mister...?" Agent Brand Asked

"You can call me Bob honey."

It was very unsettling to be honest. There was this man, clothes in tatters, smelling of cigarettes and BO telling of top secret events that had happened in the past years. Nothing could've prepared us for the things that were yet to come.

"We will fall under fire from AIM and The Shield will slip from the World's grasp and the Serpent will return to claim it. The Darkness will reach out for the thunderer and the Star-Lord will battle for the very Galaxy."

Then his predictions got truly terrifying.

"A period of tribulation will befall Earths mightiest heroes, first a villain of their own making will seek to destroy them and then Everlasting Death from the depths of space will set it's sights on Earth!"

After my initial report to Director Fury we were ordered to take patient 9-2000 with us. We transferred him to the S.H.I.E.L.D wing of Ravencroft Institute and soon after his prediction about the "Shield slipping" came to pass when the Hydra infiltration was revealed.

  14. I have this book but still haven't read it. I've seen the movie, though.

I always felt like it copied off the War World episode of Justice League, tho......

It was actually inspired (at least partially) by The Russell Crowe film Gladiator

    gladiator.jpg

Angelina Jolie is being considered by Marvel as a potential director for Captain Marvel. I'm not sure how I feel about this, I would hope that they would choose a Director who is at least passively familiar with the source character (Carol Danvers Ms. Marvel-Captain Marvel) and to me Angelina seems like the kind of person to never even crack open a comic book.

  15. After Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner clicked with fans in The Avengers there has been renewed interest in a solo Hulk film. A lot of fans have pointed to one storyline that would be perfect for the film, Planet Hulk.

For those unfamiliar, planet hulk began with the secretive group of Marvel elites called The Illuminati (Tony Stark, Professor X, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Reed Richards, Doctor Strange and Black Bolt) deciding that the Hulk is getting to Dangerous to leave unchecked on Earth and they decide to get rid of him. While unconscious they put him in a space ship and blast him into deep space with his destination being a planet with "Wild game and no intelligent life" so Hulk can be alone. However he is so enraged he smashes the controls and is rocketed into a wormhole and arrives on the planet Sakkar. He is weakened by the transit and is enslaved as a gladiator and gains some higher intelligence by having Nanomachines implanted in his brain for universal communication. He eventually befriends the fellow gladiators and becomes War bound and even finds a lover named Caiera.

The storyline was adapted into an animated film in 2010 and I highly recommend it.

I think it's a perfect way to bridge the gap between Guardians outer space story with Avengers Earth based story (in fact Adam Warlock and Star-Lord can be seen in the Arena as spectators).

  16. Were Captain America and Iron Man not well known before 2000? I guess I have a warped view of well known superheroes.

They were but not as popular as Spider-Man and the X-Men

There was a Hollywood Reporter headline after Marvel unveiled their initial development slate (Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor) that read "Marvel Unveils the B-Team, inside Marvel's risky move".

  17. I like DC just as much as the next fanboy but the problem is they keep trotting out the same old heroes (Superman and Batman) year after year. When are they going to take a chance with some of their lesser known characters? I can think of a handful of characters that could do very well on screen given the chance.

After Marvel gave the rights to Spider-Man and the X-Men to studios they lost out on them when they tried to branch into movies themselves, that's why they went with Iron Man, Thor and Captain America well-known characters to fans but unknowns to the uninitiated.

I think that Booster Gold would make a great addition to the growing DCCU line-up. His backstory is equal parts funny and tragic. In the future Michael Jon Carter is a very popular football player for Gotham University until it came to light that he was throwing games and betting on the other team (forced into it by his abusive, absentee Father). Expelled from school he got a job at the Metropolis Space Museum and became obsessed with the heroic age of the 21st century so with help from his Droid assistant Skeets stole display pieces and traveled back to present day to become a rich and famous Super Hero (hint: he eventually learns humility and that being a hero is more about fame and money)

Booster has strictly appeared in Animated form in Justice League Unlimited episode "The Greatest Story Never Told", in a few episodes of Batman The Brave and the Bold and his only live action appearance in Smallville episode "Booster" (which I enjoyed very much)

  18. After the American Revolution rumor has it that George Washington was approached by the founding fathers and asked if he would lead the country as King, he declined.

    But what if he accepted?

In Reign we find America a very different place. Stretching from Canada to Mexico the United States of North America celebrate as the Coronation of King Tobias Washington draws closer. However when a young reporter doing a story about the Washington family stumbles across the Journal of a forgotten Founding Father named Benjamin Franklin he discovers Franklin's disdain for another Monarch so soon after rebelling against one in England. As Tobias digs deeper he discovers that all is not well in the USNA and finds his life threatened by The Culper Ring, secret police who work for the Washington Family.

  19. Chapter Three:

I left Hartford Hospital and made the trek to nearby Bloomfield Connecticut, my destination was The Bloomfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

I was still considered contagious so I was placed in a single room all by my lonesome.

I think it should be noted that being alone nearly 24 hours a day made me very very....unpredictable, thankfully earlier in the year I had won $300 on a Connecticut lottery scratch ticket and purchased something that would come to be of great use to me in the coming months a Kindle Fire tablet (in fact I am typing this very book on it at this moment).

I was under quarantine for quite a while confined to a bed because being as big as I was they didn't have a wheelchair big enough to accommodate me. You start to climb the walls confined to a single room and a bed, you hunger for any voice that isn't your own. The isolation gets to you and you find yourself going slightly mad.

I have to stop writing now, I have the sudden urge to cry for a bit.

    Chapter Four:

I thought that I was done with having to have my rear end cleaned by another person when Toilet training came about. How quickly we devolve back to adolescence when you can't manage a few simple steps to the John. The first time you tell another adult you have to use the Bedpan is an awfully embarrassing moment. It makes you feel tiny, smaller than those very small ants you see scurrying around in the summertime. This book is a meager thank you to all the dedicated CNA's (Certified Nursing Assistant for future reference) at Bloomfield their unflinching dedication to the job made my year bearable.

Thankfully the embarrassment fades quickly as the necessity to relieve oneself takes over. You do your business, ring for assistance, roll over and get 'cleaned' and continue with what you were doing which for me most days was watching crappy Daytime chat shows, the occasional marathon of Law & Order Special Victims Unit on USA Network or binge watching an entire season of my favorite television shows on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video (keep up the great services guys!)

But sometimes no matter how much SVU, Sliders and Castle episodes you watch nothing can keep loneliness and boredom away forever, sometimes all that will stop the bad thoughts from wriggling in your brain is to hear the soothing voice of your mother telling you everything's going to be alright.

Thanks Mom....I now and forever love you.
