Real swords are not toys, they are extremly dangerious. When I got my first sword I was looking at it and cut myself. luckly it wasn't bad. I suggest you buy wall mounts for it if your mom relents and lets you get it, and tell her that you will only take it down for cleaning.

I've never been cut by a sword. Why? Because I have the sense not to get one in the first place.

Swords are pointless.

If you're gonna kill someone, just shoot them.

Oh, if you're gonna kill someone, DON'T.

I like having a katana for display. They're beautiful swords. My cheap display katana doesn't hold a candle to the badass Japanese Officer katana that my Great Grandfather brought back from fighting at Guadalcanal, though.

Explain to your mom your interest in the sword and the art behind it... tell her you're researching sword safety... uhhh....

I don't know. Also explain to her that this isn't razor sharp.

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere, but does this sword have an edge on it or is it display/swinging practice only? Look around and research if you plan to do more than use one for display. There are a lot of metal types, manufacturing processes, blunt or sharp edges, etc. If you want to practice cutting a mat you will want one with an edge that will stand up to that though you won't need anything super strong. Cheap swords can be suitable for this kind of practice as long as this is the proper kind.

Perhaps someone can provide some more constructive input without resorting to flaming?

Well, than say this:

Okay Mom/Dad I want the sword really bad.

You can cut the sharp things off of the sword.

If you do that.

Can I have the sword than?

I won't take it outside...

Just in a glass case or something, since it looks so good. :)

Something like that will do the job! :)

But why get that ordinary sword for 20 bucks? I don't care if you don't like Riddick, these blades are awesome. They'd look so badass on my dresser...
