The Chat Situation This Is A Problem

This is a code that pretty much says, "Get mIRC."

To encourage you guys not sucking and following the code's advice, here are detailed instructions for (ahem) Windows users.

1. Download & install mIRC.

2. Click "continue" on the nag screens, or w/e.

3. The mIRC Options window will be open. Fill in the blanks you see, which should be:

Full Name (Put anything here)

E-Mail Address (Put any e-mail here, but I think it's required. It doesn't even have to be a real e-mail.)

Nickname (What your nickname on the chat is.)

Alternative (What you will be signed on as if your nickname is taken.)

4. Click Options under the Connect tab. Check "Preserve nicknames" and set default port to 6667.

5. Under the Connect tab on the Options window, click Servers. Most of the listed servers are popular servers that are kind of default. However, to access Hnet chat, you'll want to click Add. Fill in stuff accordingly.

IRC Server (Put irc.nixtrixirc.net in this blank)

Ports (6667)

And the rest you can leave blank. After you've added the server under whatever name, find it on the list and double click it. You'll be brought back to the Connect tab.

6. Click Connect. On default settings, there will be a "favorite channels" list you can turn off that pops up. Click "Add" and fill in the appropriate blanks.

Channel (#zelda)

Description (What you name the channel.)

[x] Join on connect

The rest can be left blank.

7. You'll get connected to the server. A bunch of stuff will flood the screen. From here, if you want to identify your password protected nickname, type /ns identify password

Password being replaced with whatever your password is, of course.

8. If you haven't already joined the channel, type /join #zelda

mIRC has a bunch of useful features and options, and it doesn't laggggg. You can set colors for everything, or select backgrounds for channels by right clicking the channel in the channel list. You can get notifications when people say your name by:

Tools -> Address Book -> Highlight -> Check Enable highlight -> Click Add

Highlight lines that contain these words (Put your nickname/other nicknames. For instance, I added both "Sahaqiel" and "Saha)

Play sound (Click No sound for Beep, or click Beep for a custom noise.)

And whatever.

Yeah.

I thought "The chat situation" meant "The flood of really lame new users".
