Depends if Family force 5 ever gets big enough to care. I saw them when I was a freshmen in highschool. I thought they were really cool because they sounded like Linkin Park but they were religious and their songs were about Jesus.

My music tastes have changed since I was fourteen.

wouldn't really matter, if they have produced music, which they obviously have, and have a half decent lawyer, they could get a pretty large settlement off that one. Wouldn't be the first small band to do that to a major artist.

Dre might not, the people he is very close to copying might.

Tell that to Miley Cyrus and her payout to Lustra, or the country singer who had to pay the people who now produce ABBA's records.

Crucify him

Nail him to the front of the church of rap

You can't, at least not easily. The point being, small music gigs can and do get fairly large payments out of larger artists for this kind of thing. Intent doesn't even really matter, "tip of the hat" or not, if they didn't cover the copyright, these family force 5 people can take him to court and win.

I went up and look up that song Beep after this post.

This is a horrible horrible song.

But, I don't think it had that hold up wait a minute in the intro that I was referring to.

Wait. I thought it was this shitty Family Force 5 band who was copying off of Dr. Dre. And if they're Christian rock or something, I doubt they will make a huge deal out of it.

Also, "Hold up, wait a minute, put a little _____ in it" is the equivalent of a cheerleader cheer/chant.

"Hold up, wait a minute, put my two cents in it" -Pussycat Dolls' "Beep"

"Say hold up, wait a minute, Lemme put some pimpin' in it" -Nelly's "Hold Up"

I am sure that there are more. These came out before the Family Force 5 one, I believe.

They may not, they may not even be aware of it's existence. But then again, I assume they use a production company, and they may make an issue of it al well.

Also, words are generally not enough to violate copyright, nor is a chord progression(again, generally, if the words or chord structure is especially unusual or original, then things get a little more grey), but if you combine the two, you have a lawsuit on your hands.

You don't understand that there is more to it than words. The words alone are not a violation, the words+the beat+the chord progression, is.

And there is plenty of legal precedent to support it.

Never said there was, merely that it was possible.

Well, once again. It has and does happen. Perhaps not with this situation, but it does happen.

Things that could possibly happen vs. things that can and do happen.

Science!
