The Hyrule Wiki

Hi, BTW, I'm back from many months absence...

Ok, I was, in fit of boredom, having a look at the Hyrule wiki. It seems that all of the category pages have been edited to display a huge list links to porn sites. I've fixed a couple. Also many irrelevant pages have been added.

The wiki was added to be a repository of Zelda knowledge. Tapping into the massive fanbase around the world and the large membership of this forum. I cannot delete any pages, nor can I spare the time to continually edit the category pages. Looking through the changes list, these people seem to always change the pages.

I call on Dustin, who though I know has a busy schedule, to delete these pages, and the users that are doing these things. There must be a way to stop this. Maybe giving a few people the ability to completely delete pages?

we've asked him and he WAS going to sort out allowed mods to do deletions as well, because that was the main thing that stopped the cleanup we were having...

Also, hello again James :D

I know, it's sick, and who would even want to defile a video game wiki? It takes five minutes to load those huge pages, and about three minutes of highlighting and deleting to get rid of all of the irrelevant things. I mean, every nine out of ten clicks on the random article link shows you spam or Japanese, the latter of which is most likely spam also. There does seem to be a repeating list of spammer names: LuoBo, Sun1314, Nicegirl998 (Not a very nice girl; spams the Wiki with WoW articles  ), and many more, especially for the Japanese articles. (How do we know whether Japanese articles are spam? )

Everyone here at Hyrule.net should join an UberDuperWikiCleanupSquad and get things back to how they should be.

It amazes me why people would even do these things. I hardly think it would be for revenge from someone for who knows what or else they'd hack the site and forums too.

Why does it amaze you? Its not revenge it's stupidity and boredom.

You might want to change the 9 out of 10 thing, it took me 39 clicks of random article to get to a real article (deleting all the spam ones along the way because now I can)

Hm... from what I know of some of our members, I've got basically one prime suspect, possibly a few others. I'm not sure if I should post my supisions yet though. I'll investigate a bit and then PM Dustin I guess.

Well its not really been hacked, Thats like saying logging into your computer is hacking your computer. Any idiot can create an account and maliciously create spam articles. Incase Dustin is watching this. Can he please make me a Mod type person on the wiki. Since I am still one of the largest non-spam contributers. And its disheartening to see all that hard work go to waste.

Anyway. Its most likely bots. Adding in captcha or similar would help. But that would require changin the Wikimedia source. Which I'm not sure is (possible|legal).

The Wiki has been updated. It now requires you to log in using your forum login. The spam has also been deleted. All members have editing abilities on the forum.
