I got my first car more than a year before I had my license. My parents wanted me to learn to drive standard, which the driver's ed program I was in didn't teach, so they got me a Jeep Liberty with a stick shift and taught me in that. I drove it for six years, until finally it started overheating on the highway and the repairs would cost more than the car.

Also, in personal news, I'm getting married tonight! Everybody is in town already, which has been interesting, and as far as I know everything is set up and ready to go for the service!

Hi everybody! It's been so long since I found a new forum, but I figured it was time. Here's a bit about me.

I'm from Texas, which mostly just means I believe in brisket barbecue and that it shouldn't be surprising that my family owns a cattle ranch. I graduated from University in 3 years from A&M (whoop!) with a degree in English literature. No, I'm not going to teach. Yes, I'm going to grad school. But not for English, because I want to be a pastor in the Methodist Church. I'm starting seminary in the fall in pursuit of my Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree, which will allow me to pursue ministry in the capacity of an Elder (basically just a pastor).

I'm engaged to a wonderful girl from Alabama. I designed the ring myself, and we're getting married in July. She's going to teach high school math, and she had way better grades than I did.

I like tinkering, building, reading, writing, movies, coffee, tea, and so many other things. I'm currently reading through the writings of Jaques Derrida ("The Animal that Therefore I Am" at the moment) and writing a series of short fantasy stories set in a desert kingdom. I also sometimes write essays about philosophy, the state of the church, social and cultural movements, and other critical/analytic topics.

I hope I can find a place to fit in here, y'all seem quite nice!

I bought a Pointer chore coat. It's thick duck canvas, which is pretty cool because it's water and wind resistant without having to be treated with wax or anything.

I also bought a ton of duck canvas to make Christmas presents. This year, I'm hand-sewing aprons for people, as I've done a lot of cooking with friends, and they all need nice, durable aprons.

Ah man, I haven't been around much, but coming back and reading about your progress is inspiring. Looking at how you've come so far, I think you're absolutely right; 2015 will be a year of triumph, no question about it!

Man, stick with it! We take things like walking for granted, but it really is remarkable how simple it is to get to where we have to start over. But you're already improving, and you can keep it up! Look how far you've gotten and imagine how far you'll go.

I'm not there yet! I'm taking a year to work full time at a campus ministry, save some money, and generally get my life in order. But I have started submitting applications, which is a bit of a stressful experience! But you know, working 55-60 hour weeks keeps me busy.

How's life been treating you, hombre?

I've been workingmy first real full-time salaried job for two weeks now, and I could not be happier with it. My coworkers are all fantastic, and I'm getting to work in a ministry that I'm really passionate about. I feel like I'm actually a part of something worthwhile for the first time, and it's fantastic.

I turned in three papers today. Three. I only have one left, unless my Southern Lit professor decides to assign a paper over Absolom, Absolom. Hopefully that does not happen, but even if it does, it'll be okay.

I wrote 26 pages last night, and it sucked, but it'a okay because it's over now!

Last Thursday, I went to bed at 2. Friday, 5. Saturday, 7:30. Yesterday, 10, because I crashed, but I woke up at 2 and stayed up because I had papers to finish.

I'm about to crash again. I'm so tired. But it's all okay. Everything is good.

Well, one of my roommates quit our lease on move-in day,  so we have an empty room in our apartment. In all honesty, that's the closest thing I have at the moment to a "woe," and that's entirely because I don't want to see this guy push away all of his friends and withdraw from everything he's involved in. I've known for a while that he's prone to doing that every few years, but I'm really hoping he stops himself before he's too far gone.

Beyond that, everything is actually going decently. I'm on meds for panic disorder and OCD, and those are taking the edge off a problem that's a bit worse than I had been allowing myself to believe. All of my classes are awesome, but that's just because I'm almost done with my degree. I ordered my class ring yesterday, which is a really really big deal at my school (people take a lot of pride in their class ring). I'm working as a barista in a local coffee shop, which is a job I absolutely love, and I have an awesome girlfriend. In general, everything is definitely okay.

It's true, older members leave and come back fairly frequently. Sometimes it's because they get frustrated with something here, but more often it's simply that life gets busier and they start giving more attention to things like jobs, significant others, school, and things of the sort. It's really quite easy to fall away, for as great as this community is.

So apparently the people who moved into the house neighboring the house I'll be moving into this semester are juggalos.

    Honest to god I'm excited.

I've never posted a picture here before, though I've said I would. So, here you go. I used to have a lot of hair, and this was taken during that period, back in January. I had to crop it down a little bit because there was another guy behind me, but the story here is that I won the race for the seat on the bus and he dove over me. In the full picture, I'm holding a box of chicken that I was about to eat. Not that it's a particularly interesting story, but just for some context.

I let my sister have her way with my long hair the night before I cut a lot of it off, and this was the result. Again, I cropped it down because I didn't want to post a picture of my sister.
