oh hey things have been happening in my town lately that I feel is worth sharing with this dead thread! both good and bad things...

On the plus side, one of my favourite neighbours in my town, Beau, gave me his picture recently! First animal picture I've ever gotten in any AC game! Hella awesome. So obviously he's now my favouritest of the favourites. :3 cutest lazy deer buddy

His picture quote is: "You snooze, you lose." how adorable :333

But... on the negative side... I have a camper in my campsite today, and he's actually really puppyin' cool

he's a GRUMPY, MONOCHROME horse who is obsessed with peaches he keeps asking to buy some off me. Super adorable, right? And he completely fits with my town's (planned) colour scheme of black/white/red everywhere, anywhere. So why don't I ask him to move in?

I already have ten neighbours. :< And I only recently got cursed with my tenth from a recent Streetpass villager trade from some random. :<< puppying. Broccolo. the ugly mouse with the offensive house/catchphrase/existence. why WHY did he have to mooooove to my town and like, cockblock me from getting this cool-as-shit horse? I'm so mad. ENRAGED. He's getting pitfalled til he leaves my town from now on... why do I only get cool campers when I have ten neighbours already? literally fuming

Speaking of awful neighbours, Melba the SUPPOSEDLY-NICE koala isn't doing herself any favours either. Look at this letter she just sent me.

someone please let me come visit their town and get away from my neighbours for one day ;-; i need a break

That really sucks Cascade. If I were there maybe I could rub your back until you feel better. (: No belly rubs, just good old fashion food poisoning exorcism via back rub.

Also no offense gurl but I totally thought it was because of alcohol until you mentioned the spaghetti. Keep on keepin' strong; hopefully you'll get to sleep soon.

Teto, I think you summed it up pretty perfectly. That's exactly what it is now. I just come by to make ludicrous posts about ranting because I don't feel comfortable to do so on other places. Like in the specific stance of my last thread, I couldn't post that on tumblr because too many people know me irl follow my tumblr and frankly, they don't need to know that personal information. I wanted some feedback from you guys (not to simply be validated, but to hear your thoughts) and I know that I can do that here since we've known each other for so long.

But yeah, other than that, I am not really super engaged in any of the topics threads. We've already discussed everything that needs to be discussed, we don't have a high new member retention rate. I don't feel like complaining or debating with anyone, ever - not because I don't have feelings on any topics, but that the nature of how this forum "debates" is very abrasive to me. Like LL said, I could say something but I just think to myself, "Why bother" and move on with my life. My status updates are mundane or drunkenly submitted. Like, who cares right? I think circle of you have become a lot more close (like the skype group vs the irc group) and I don't feel like I can ever keep up with either of them, or none of them care to keep up with me. And the people that I am close to, I often talk to on other mediums of communication. I'm not hurt by this fact, but merely stating my observation.

But yeah I feel this dawg

Edit: Another thing that I thought of while I was thinking about the debate thing - I feel like a lot of people are getting caught up in the idea that their opinion is "right" and the other person's is "wrong." Like, you can say you respect opinions, but the way differing opinions are treated on here is not in a respectful manner. That literally pisses me off to no end, and it's been like that for years here. I can't even look at the "America is shit" thread or whatever it's called because it's literally opinions that are being treated like facts. I disagree with a lot of things in that thread because I've had a lot of education on culture in my major, but because of how abrasive things come off in that thread, I literally just want no part of it. Not very conducive to discussion, is it? Like let's all be liberal and "accepting" but chew out and be intolerant of anyone's differing opinion while we just keep wanking each other off. Literally puppying tumblr for god's sake.

    okay end rant

LL, was this supposed to be in forum games? lol

No, I'm feeling mucho despair because it's not out in the UK 'til Friday. >: THREE. WHOLE. DAYS. y'all better not SPEAK to me about it during this time...   hopes that my pre-ordered copy comes a day early or something... pls...   Oh, yeah, everyone who cares about DR, and who I haven't already shown, should check out the abridged anime series at some point. I'll link the first episode below. So far, there's been three episodes, one special 'meet the students' deal, and a special parody of the official English trailer. For an abridged series, it's actually pretty well done and hilarious. one thousand recommendations from me! c: spoilers for the first murder trial obviously.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGEEfqzKDCs

If it was 'stating the obvious', why was it made a law in the first place? Why did it need to become a law? It was pretty much yet another hurdle designed to further impede trans*people from going through with the transition process. And you make it sound like divorce/dissolution of partnerships is just a simple snap of the fingers. They generally tend to take a while to accept, process and finalise, and one partner might try to not let the other leave the relationship that easily? Abusive partners exist? And whilst all that's happening, the trans* person can't actually begin transitioning until they're legally not in the partnership? And who knows how long that might take? Yeah, that's kinda shitty. nobody else other than the actual person should have the right to have a say when they can start that. And it's not a simple "but couldn't they just wait". no, they shouldn't have too.

And it's also the fact that even in relationships where the non-trans* person accepts everything, they still had to legally say they give permission for it to happen before any transitioning could take place. Isn't that.... kinda awful and ridiculous to you??? Again, it's not up to non-trans* people to decide these things. It never should've been a law in the first place.

Sorry if I sound biting but. come on. it clearly had to go. and now I feel bad for making this into an awkward debating thing.

So, the Scottish Government passed a bill for same-sex marriage equality today, 105 votes for and 18 votes against. Should come into effect by autumn this year!

A good day for some misplaced patriotism! Took us long enough, England's had that shit since last July. How could we let them beat us to the punch? But seriously, I am proud of the government for finally doing what they've been saying they were going to do for years. (o:

(17th country in the world to pass it ain't such a bad placing. I guess.)

Oh, right, and this bill also gets rid of the ridiculous law that trans*people who were in marriages/partnerships couldn't legally transition unless they got permission from their partner to do so/divorced or dissolved the partnership. puppyin' hooray. absolutely stupid that was ever a thing.

nah man, Cascade you are totally right. Sometimes things like that arent super obvious, especially to use youngsters who arent in a marriage or partnership. Especially those of us who arent trans*. Explaining stuff always helps. And there is nothing wrong with a little topical passion. You didnt come off as mean or anything to me at least.

Ohio is a dumb state. It's known as the "trendsetting" state. But it doesnt really set trends. It waits til 1/3rd or half the states already legalize something and then Ohio will legalize it and then ALL the OTHER states will then fall into line. That's not trendsetting, that's puppying bandwagoning haha. At least thats how im told Ohio works. I'll probably actually notice it when marijuana legalization and gay marriage happens here.

so this has been going around tumblr

and this is the best comment, and really one of the only comments i can take seriously on the matter--

IN WHICH I WRITE A VERY LONG POST ABOUT WHY MIYAZAKI IS NOT WRONG AND I APPARENTLY CAN’T INSERT A READ MORE BREAK SO SUCK IT IN THAT REGARD TOO, I GUESS
    tl;dr:
If you unironically call yourself an otaku, you’re lumping yourself in with some of the least-respected members of society in Japan, and you shouldn’t be surprised/outraged when a well-respected member of Japanese society looks down on you. The things otaku like are off-putting, and because the anime industry makes most of their money from otaku, the anime industry in general is off-putting. The anime industry should probably be restructured so that otaku have less power to decide what gets animated, otherwise the anime industry will collapse because NOBODY LIKES IT. Gimme your lunch money, nerds. Uh, he never implied masturbation is as bad as war. He’s being a cranky old man, as cranky old men are wont to do. The author of the article just listed those things as additional things Miyazaki doesn’t like.
And something you people really, really, REALLY need to understand is that "otaku" is not a term of endearment in Japan the way “nerd” has become so in the West. If I were to speculate, I’d say it has a lot to do with cultural values - here, we place a lot of value and pride in our individual identities, but that just is not the case in Japan. They, and the East Asian countries in general, place a lot of value in working to improve the collective. Being an otaku implies a lot of the things you’d think being the classical “nerd” implies - living in your mother’s basement, spending all your time watching anime/slacking off, and being a general drain on society. While that’s not “accepted” in the West per se, it is not directly contradictory to every cultural value we have. We’re just expressing our identities when we do those kinds of things. In Japan, they are the antithesis of a praiseworthy member of society. When the anime industry is, in Miyazaki’s mind, full of these kinds of people, who seal themselves off in insular groups and jack off to 2D waifus all day in between drawing said 2D waifus, that is a real problem.
Frankly, when I look at the entire catalogue of anime titles released over the past 5 years, I see what he means. Who the puppy is going to buy OreImo except lolicon siscon hentai otaku? Who the puppy is going to buy K-On! except ronery NEETs? I LOVE the Monogatari Series - but who the puppy is going to buy that shit except social rejects?
Real-life people do not act like the people in those shows.Real people do not say to their friends/rivals in love “hey, let’s take a shower together while I fondle your tits.” Real sisters do not fall in love with their oniichan desu~s after many sessions of counseling. I love the tsundere archetype, but a real-life tsundere is someone that nobody wants to be around because they treat other people like shit.
I probably should devote an entire paragraph to lolis. (Most) people do not sexualize little girls, and in fact find the sexualization of of little girls to be repulsive. Why, then, are there so many lolis in anime? Because lolis represent a lot of things that a lot of men find desirable in women - innocence, petite bodies, cuteness in general. But for whatever reason, it has become not only okay, but the norm for anime to have prepubescent girls in compromising sexual positions. If you like flat chests - fine. If you like inexperienced girls - fine. If you like cute things - fine. Mashing all of those things together on a 12-year-old and slapping a bikini on her to appeal to otaku with those preferences? Most people will say that is puppyed up.
Fanservice is off-putting to a lot of people. Incest is off-putting to a lot of people. Lolis are off-putting to a lot of people. Unbelievable characters and character interactions are off-putting to a lot of people. But those things are things that self-proclaimed otaku audiences embrace, so that’s what the Miyazaki-proclaimed otaku in the industry draw. Because animation studios make so little money off of anything but DVD and merchandise sales, and otaku are the only people who buy that stuff, the anime industry of late has become inbred and stale at best, and offensive and pedophilic at worst.
Miyazaki is well-loved, both in the West and in the East. But he is not well-loved because his works are made for otaku. I’ve never seen anything he’s made, but the sense I get is that he’s loved in the mainstream because he tells stories that resonate with a hell of a lot of people. The problem he sees in the anime industry is that their works tend only to resonate with otaku, and otaku are not acceptable members of society in Japan. From what I’ve seen of what’s been released and been popular the past few years, I cannot blame him for thinking the way he does.
