So uh, I know I was going to write up a response about how the line between porn and art is very blurred and thin, and can easily be crossed from either side, but then I found out that my school was paying a famous artist named Zak Smith to come give a two hour lecture.

Fun Fact: He's both a famous artist and Alternative Porn Star, under the name "Zak Sabbath." I pulled out my laptop during my 3D class and we looked up porn of him. It was funny. He always looks apathetic, even in his portraits, even when a woman is sitting on his face.

I'm going to try and get a picture with him.

I think the reason I enjoyed Chester 5000 was that there was more emotion and a getting to know the characters a little bit. You don't normally get that in porn. Even if they make some attempt at establishing the characters, there's seldom any emotion in the sex scenes themselves. It's made very clear that it's all for fun, hence the reason most of them end with a "money shot" rather than, say, having both participants climaxing or cuddling and what have you.

One of the reasons people such as Roger Ebert don't rule video games as 'art' is because they're interactive, which is a shame because, as Chimetals pointed out, the interactivity is part of what makes them so compelling. It's a world you take part in, like a painting that requires the viewer's participation in order to be complete.

Then again, by some definition everything we're discussed can be called 'art'. Really, the term 'art' used to refer to the work of anyone who was good at their craft.
