  1. All in all, it was a pretty good introduction to the Gundam franchise. I now know a lot more than I did before and the rest of the series seems a whole lot more interesting and understandable now.

We've already talked a lot about the movies, and I'm super glad about what else you enjoyed in the trilogy, but this part is what makes me feel best. Despite every anime fan and their grandma knowing "of" Gundam, very few anime fans (in the west at least) actually know much "about" Gundam, and they feel really daunted by the sheer size of the franchise. There's lots of misunderstandings of the Gundam settings and why/how there are so many series and how they're connected. The Gundam movie trilogy (or the original series itself) is the one thing I recommend to absolutely everyone, because it's what the whole franchise, and "real robot" genre, is based around and puts it all in perspective while also giving a good story. After the MSG movies, the rest just naturally opens up to you.

  2. Well, this Tumblr thread has gone interesting places. I, for one, see what Miyazaki was saying and think he's not too far off, but since I haven't seen much of this contemporary anime that's supposedly pandering to otaku I can't say I agree with everything that tumblr commenter said. I've only recently started watching anime each season as it airs but these last couple seasons I haven't seen anything I'd call offensively pandering (except Valvrave, maybe? That show's such a special trainwreck). Anyhow, the cool, quality shows that air and keep getting popular keep my hope alive for the future of the anime industry and fandom.

  3. life fibers give the power of evolution. Also known as spiral power

    also know as Getter rays

    Anyhow, that Kilakil.

And the revelations just come raining down like, delicious, plot-centric candy. When Mikisugi was posing while he explained how the Life Fibers had been dormant for millenia and have awoken to conquer the world I got serious Jojo vibes, and it was awesome. Also, that scene with Satsuki and her mom... I don't even know. It was... interesting.

  4. Also, on a mostly unrelated note, do you by any chance know what this gif is from? It's really pretty.

I guess it might be a bit late to say this is from the movie Gundam F91... It's a cool movie and the animation is this good all the time. The story's nothing terribly special but since it's just a movie I'd say it's worth the watch if only for the eye-candy and cool mobile suit designs.

  5. The Kill la Kill bandwagon is the most fun fascist, brutally violent bandwagon you could be on right now. I'm loving the ride.

Also, I recently started watching Bakemonogatari on Sahaqiel's suggestion. 6 episodes (a little under halfway through) and it's been an oddly fun time so far. Very talky and thoughtful for a show that's on paper about a former vampire who solves supernatural mysteries and meets cute girls along the way. The conversations are clever and use a lot of symbolism alongside very plot-relevant quirks with the Japanese written language. Also, the show's beautiful and the new openings for each story arc is a nice touch.

  6. Especially because if they instead hear the story from the drunk fairies they probably won't understand a word. Yoshiyuki Tomino probably based Garzey's Wing on a story of Byston Well a drunk fairy told him.

  7. I like the idea that Satsuki might not even recognize an intelligence in Junketsu. Oh, and a thing that's intrigued me is how when she activates Junketsu he turns into this flaming bestial form and roars as he affixes to her. Maybe Junketsu doesn't have an intelligence and behaves like a wild creature that needs to be controlled and Satsuki just assumed Senketsu acts the same.

  8. I think Junketsu will get a voice before the show is done, possibly at some dramatic moment of failure on Satsuki's part where she has no choice but to talk to it/him/her if she hasn't already. Lady Satsuki is definitely one of the highlights of the show for me, and it'd be cool to get more insight into her.

  9. I've had that picture of alternate Ryuko Favorited on DeviantArt for months and never thought I could share cool stuff like that here. Meanwhile on the opposite side of the skin-showing spectrum, this one looks to be heavily based on the pose and perspective from the scene where Satsuki is calling Ryuko out for being ashamed of her body as she dons Junketsu, but I still feel the detail work is wonderful and the expression is perfectly captured. Despite the boobs I can't stop looking at the face.

  10. Just watched Kill la Kill 15, myself.

I love so much how they manage to always make the Ryuko vs Satsuki fights the most visually impressive. There's enough space between them for each one to really shine, plus being a Gundam fan I'm also a fan of rival characters debating philosophy during their 1-on-1 duels. Also it was nice Senketsu's new ability this episode felt a lot more organic than his upgrades, and served a big single-use purpose.

  11. Guts could probably take Ber-Zer Car. I mean, if an idiot like Shirou Emiya can do it with some help, surely a single competent character can do the same.

  12. Kill la Kill 13

Well this show keeps on surprising. I thought this was just going to be a comedic cool-down episode after all the high tensions of the battles, and for the most part it was, but what a turn-around that was near the end. Ryuko is almost certainly going to have to fight to retrieve the pieces now. Also, I can't wait until we find out what Nui's game is and what she's getting out of all this.

  13. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle + Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker = Naked Snake's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Mercenaries. A stealth fighting game with tons of extra missions and the ability to create fighting teams of different Snakes and other metal gear characters and send them out to tournaments all over the world were they compete against vampires and psychics under the command of mercenary leaders Psycho Mantis and Vamp.

Oh, and there's posing. So much posing.

DR SHRUBBERY!, Teto and pheonix561 like this

  14. I'M ALSO EXCITED FOR NOBUNAGA THE FOOL BECAUSE EPISODE 1 WAS RIDICULOUS AND FUN. Also Shoji Kawamori for mecha designs hellaaaa

Well, I'm going to have to check this show out then. It's been a while since I had more than Gundam Build Fighters to watch each week in the anime department.

  15. I quite like breakfast, myself.I don't put as much of myself into it as Necro, but I still enjoy the process, especially when omelettes are involved. Also, I always assumed breakfast was often referred to as the most important meal because it is expected that one has gotten a healthy 7-8 hours of sleep beforehand and had eaten dinner a few hours before going to bed, making the gap between meals largest before breakfast. Not that that's a very realistic generalization nowadays.
