Apparently in Sunday school at church when I was little, for Easter they asked us to draw and combine some symbols of Easter. In my mind therefore it made sense for me to find a creative way to combine the easter bunny and the crucifix and I drew the easter bunny nailed to the cross. Makes sense though, right? Ask us to combine symbols and this kind of thing is bound to happen. I'm not sure if the teachers there were concerned or amused, but knowing them they probably took it grimly.

What do you expect though? You teach children about a man heaving a cross up a hill and then being nailed to it and left to die by blood loss or exposure, and you expect children to be innocent and unaffected? If it's really so bad for children to have these images in their head then don't display so many different gory adaptations all over the place. If anything it kind of just shows how little I understood suffering and pain, and that made me more innocent.

    Still, funny though.

But if Glenn Gould sits way down low and puts his face in the keys, why shouldn't I?

I was deeeefinitely the same way with piano. My teacher was actually a pretty good teacher, and kept trying to get me to learn piano technique, which as I know today is actually imperative to being able to do anything piano related. I could read sheet music just fine, so I'd just hit the right notes in the right order and think it sounded fine, but it would take me actual years to learn any full pieces just because, you know, I wasn't actually learning them, I was just following along. It wasn't until art school that I really learned the value of good technique. I know that if I ever go back to piano, I'm definitely going to be holding my hands properly, and practicing my scales all the time.

A violin sings, but a fiddle dances.
    /
A violin has a brown neck, but a fiddle has a red neck.

    (there's no difference)

I played violin on and off for a while, maybe eight years? and stayed at same skill level after the first couple of years, in part because my instructors pretty much just gave me things to try playing instead of teaching proper technique, and also because I was a kid who lacked the discipline to practice and didn't care too much about it anyway. They mostly tried to get me to play arrangements of popular music and scores from movies I hadn't seen, which wasn't great...

I didn't play at all during college, but ever since I came home for the summer, I've been idly practicing every day and working through some old exercise books. I've improved more in the past month grinding etudes and paying close attention to my technique than in maybe four years of spotty (admittedly on-and-off) instruction - it also helps that I've developed a greater appreciation for classical music since I stopped, and most (exercise-level, too) violin material is in that vein.

But man, every time I catch myself in the middle of a bad habit I think "man, why didn't they ever tell me not to do that?" and get frustrated because now I have to un-train it

big tip for self-practice: take a video of yourself playing, then watch it and you'll say "wow, THAT doesn't look right", then try to fix the thing

    That's a good tip. Thanks

It's hard to find a balance on self-teaching/online videos because it's either very very basic or overly academic. I just want to use valuable lesson time so that I can learn how to learn by myself. I will use the lessons for all their worth. I'm excited

    That's lame :< Keep trying

Also, I have had a violin for a while. I gave it to my dad because he wanted to learn how to play. He calls it the fiddle, though. I think the only difference is how far apart the strings are from the neck? If there is even any difference? Also, my dad has two of them. I will probably let him keep mine and see if I can use the less good one that he also owns.

But anyway, I dicked around with it for a while. I could only go so far with no actual instructor. So I kind of just stopped. But my friend played viola at Carnegie Hall and knows a lot about music. Actually three different people at my job are into music a lot. One of them plays brass, but his major is teaching music. My friend who plays viola is gonna give me lessons for FREEEEEEE. I'll try to pay her, though. I'm excited.

I abhor doing job searches. It honestly seems like nobody actually wants to hire you. No matter how many times i apply, call VISIT IN PERSON, i can never seem to get in.

For those not in on the joke, the sequel to Roy's game is a prequel starring his father Eliwood, who looks almost exactly like him.

I thought julianne moore was hot in magnolia but then I realized she reminds me a lot of the head of my illustration department and now I'm really conflicted and upset

So, in response to this I will say I like Dangan Ronpa 1 more than 2, but probably not for the same reasons. The atmosphere and overall tone of Dangan Ronpa 1 was much more dark and memorable to me than DR2. 2 while messed up in many aspects didn't feel as ominous. In DR1 you were trapped in a dark atmospheric school, and usually everything that was done was much more harsh and in the name of survival.
