So I just got a long lecture through-texts from my so called 'friend' explaining to me why I can't be in a band.

She says that I don't work hard enough.

I've been busting my ass writing songs, trying to find a place to rehearse, an affordable drumset for our drummer and I've been looking like crazy for a studio.

Oh, and I've also been promoting, not just on myspace but making a fool of myself at school and random public places.

So I'm not working HARD ENOUGH?

The next thing she said hit pretty hard.

"You're not the image"

Oh, I forgot, You have to be a TWIG to be the image.

I've gone back and forth to being super skinny and super huge.

in '08 I was over 300lbs. I'm not all twiggy now, but I've lost over 150lbs, and I was starting to feel good about myself.

Til' she pissed all over my happy-go-lucky parade.

Since when does what I look like affect peoples HEARING. You don't listen with your eyes!

Nah, do your own thing. There is a little something to be said about how you present yourself in a live performance, but it's more about charisma and having your own style, not about being a size 2 whatever. People think that whatever's on MTV is the only successful music, but there's tons of great stuff out there that doesn't rely on a set standard for how artists should look, dress, sing, whatever. And there will always be exceptions. Look at Edith Piaf and Janis Joplin. Neither of them looked like the ideal women, but their musical passion was such that people loved them and could relate to their music.

Well, that's just part of the job. You don't see any overweight rockstars out there, do you? People like something they can listen to and look at. That's the brutally honest truth about it.

It's just another requirement to make the job. If this is really what you want to do, you should be able to find the drive to lose weight.
