Posted 7 Apr 2011 Hi Eric, This is the FAR net tech, and I got your help request stating that your internet is no longer working in your room. Your room actually got disabled due to your use of the wireless router. This is an automatic system set up by the university to avoid complications and network stress that can be brought about by widespread use of wireless routers in dorms. All you need to do is disconnect your wireless router and I can re-enable your room, so please respond to this email when you do that. Plugging it back in WILL result in your room being disabled again because this happens by an automated system. So yea, let me know when you disconnect your wireless, and I will turn your room back on as soon as you do. Thanks! -John RE: i never had a wireless router i think you made a mistake somewhere and i would really appreciate getting my internet back now i kind of need it for classes
Posted 7 Apr 2011 not yet they still have to actually turn it back on i really have no idea how they messed this up it was originally shut down while i was on spring break as in, how the hell did they think i was using a non existent wireless router when i wasn't even in my room when they shut it off
Posted 7 Apr 2011 Wow. Uhhh that's a bit dumb. You should go talk to Mr. John about this asap? :<
Posted 7 Apr 2011 you see i went to the computer lab during the alleged time that the net techs are down there but it was just a computer lab with students in it if the net tech is down there, there is nothing that sets them apart from the other students and i wasn't about to go ask like 20 people who did not look like net techs if they were net techs i'm just going to use email for now
Posted 7 Apr 2011 You could just say "Is anyone here a Net Tech?" Or, you could email him clearly explaining the situation from your end, instead of saying "i never had a wireless router i think you made a mistake somewhere and i would really appreciate getting my internet back now i kind of need it for classes" Because if you respond like that, not only is this going to take longer, but this guy is also going to loathe you. Posted 7 Apr 2011 so apparently the assumption was based on the fact that i said wireless internet instead of wired internet in my work request that doesnt really change the initial fact that my internet was shut off for seemingly no reason
Posted 7 Apr 2011 Yeah the only thing dumber than this whole thing is how t1g is choosing to post about it stop making so many line breaks okay
Posted 7 Apr 2011 i think losing internet access in my room that i need for homework and studying is worth a rant i mean really
Posted 7 Apr 2011 Can't you borrow a friend's internet?
Posted 7 Apr 2011 my room gets really weak wireless signals that wouldn't help me out, and the point of getting my internet fixed is so i can do my homework and study in my nice quiet room as opposed to a very noisy lobby
Posted 7 Apr 2011 ok its finally back it it feels really good to have the freaking internet back here after 10 days or so i dont know why it was shut off but i dont care anymore
Posted 11 Apr 2011 That is weird that you have internet for your specific room. Ours is two series, a private network for students and a public network for guests (and for students if the internet is down). And you can also plug into the private network. Routers are discouraged but not prohibited.
Posted 11 Apr 2011 My school has a weird internet too. You have to have a special program installed on your computer, and if something goes wrong with the program, you have to uninstall it from safe mode and reinstall it to get it to work. And you can't use any peer-to-peer communicating programs, like Skype.
Posted 11 Apr 2011 Am I the only one with a logical, purely public network on my campus? My only problems stem from school-related websites, and those are fairly minor.
