I used to be in a forum that did the same, Yuriko. You'd have to ask permission to join, and there were sometimes code words you'd only get if you actually read the rules on the intro post. They were for what were considered "literate" RPs because otherwise people couldn't always be trusted to not post in chatspeak, since the forum was otherwise casual.
