Assassinating leaders or future leaders of great powers is a naughty thing to do and can lead to problems with leader change and stability. Posted 8 Nov 2008 Let us all look on the bright side, he's probably going to get assassinated. thats the bright side? and in reference to your previous post GL, the economic crisis we are experiencing is hardly Obama's fault.. the circumstances that brought this about have been in effect long before obama got elected. apologies if some of these points have already been discussed: I agree with skippy on some points - going back to the tax thing. I dont think the raising the % that peoples wages are taxed at is going to solve anything, merely hurt everyone instead, but what I would suggest is continue to raise the tax brackets at which people are taxed at. As it is now I think (correct me if im wrong) that the top tax % is 48% and this applies to those making $500k + , I think that the tax brackets should continue after this point : ie. people should be taxed at say 55% at $700k, 60% at 900k, and so forth. then there will be both more spread of wealth, and more money to spend on important things, education, healthcare, social welfare etc. isnt it something like the richest 0.1% of americas' people make more money than the poorest 50% of americans combined? Ive learnt a decent amount about businesses and how they work and its relatively easy for a CEO to make tax-deductible charity donations to avoid paying that extra bit of tax, and guess what? the goverment will give you the money back. And thats one of the legal way to do it. Offshore accounts I'm told are even easier. and the tax laws that Obama wants to create are not targetting the the gross income of a business but rather the net profit for the business owners - meaning that you will still have all your money to pay off your staff, insurances, upkeep costs etc. and only after all those costs have been paid you are then taxed on the profit left over. You can argue that these people have a right to the money they have earned - which is a fair argument - but realistically, if you targetted the richest people of the nation to give a bit more out to better the country, you could do so much with the money - and trust me, with the unbelievable amount of money that they're already earning they will still remain the countries richest. They already have everything that money can buy, so would they really notice a couple of mill more going to tax? Left or Right politics are equally as bad as each other when they are both at the extreme ends.. I'm not saying america should be come communist or even socialist, but IMO after the last few presidents it wouldnt hurt to lean a bit to the left. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Posted 8 Nov 2008 I didn't say they were going to be equal; I don't think you could do that successfully. Just closer to equal. Rich people will still have tons more things. Besides, who needs $250,000? I wouldn't even use all that money... Also, if you went through 8 years of med school just to get paid well and you don't enjoy your job I feel bad for you. Posted 8 Nov 2008 But see, here's the thing, I am going through med school to do a job I do enjoy, I get to hlp people in a way that few others can, in an enviroment I love to be in. Posted 13 Nov 2008 Obama plans to raise capital gains taxes, and significantly increase taxes on businesses (both large and small) which would lead to an increase in unemployment.
