Posted 18 Jun 2009 (edited) Oh ho ho ho. "13 is the new 18", just because people hug? "Intergender hugging"? "Pressure peers into hugging"? It's the same as saying, "You want some water?" Looks like someone, if they're serious, is a bit high on ignorance. All my life, I've asked my teachers, "Why don't we have freedom of speech in school? It's our right," and all the response I get is normally, "You're not 18, so you're not technically a citizen, therefore, not technically a person." They could easily say, "This is the school. You go to school. You follow the school rules." However, we're forced to go to school, and if parents intentionally keep a student from school, then they're arrested or the student is sent elsewhere. There's no escape route, even though students ARE people and DO have rights. School is supposed to encourage people to know their rights, and to use them readily, as well as to get people to accept a wide variety of people. Taking away public affection is really stupid. I hug them, they hug me, it's all good. If we were supposed to go through the day, mindlessly not socializing at all because we were FORCED to, then I'm pretty sure the world would be a much more boring place, and people would get in trouble a lot more often. Likewise, discrimination might increase because students don't take the time to know people who are different enough to develop an opinion about them. It's not like the hugs aren't consensual. Friend of yours walks into the door? Give 'em a big ol' hug! Friend of yours arrives at the beach? Jup out of the water and give 'em a big ol' hug! I's ke saying "I love you in a friendish way and am not ashamed to make physical contact with you in public." Actually, hugging is a core fundamental in the bond I share with some people. It's my hugging. You can't have it. It's not like the hugs aren't consensual. Ahaha, can't wait till someone gets expelled for unwarranted and gratuitous hugging.
