  1. It's all good, Saha, we have until April 29th before the next solar eclipse. Then Necro can finally attain his wish to no longer be a skeleton, and become a real boy. At the cost of a few close friends, of course, no biggie. Dunno about the badges, but I will definitely find a way to monetarily support the project when I get the chance.

  2.  When I was a kid I wanted to be a Paleontologist. Between Jurassic Park, The Land Before Time, and documentaries like Walking With Dinosaurs (which I probably still have on VHS lying around somewhere), I was obsessed with dinosaurs and drew them constantly in elementary school. Since then I've drifted away from dinosaurs, and after years of telling myself I had some kind of artist's block I finally realized when I started college that I want to make a living through art.

  3. I hope you all are prepared to get spooked, cause I'm gonna lay it down on ya.

Here's one of my first projects from my Digital Imaging class I took during the spring semester this year. The instructor was cool with my using a couple of her own stock photos to start off with. I made the eyeballs in photoshop as well as applying filters and rearranging things.3qb6.jpg

  4. Ugh, I thought I knew which gundam you were talking about and I went back to my tumblr to grab a thing of it I reblogged, but it turns out I have no idea how to tell one gundam from another.

Which college are you going to? What year are you? Can I see some of your more recent stuff?

That picture is of a ground-type Dom and mine is of a Zaku II, neither of which are technically Gundams, just mobile suits, which is what they call mecha in every gundam setting, but I don't expect most people to know that so it's cool. I've been at SWIC since I graduated high school, same as some other dudes here. I've been there for two and a half years now. And yes, you can see some more recent stuff ^_^ here's one that's a few weeks more recent than the last, but still from spring of 2012 :3 I'll get to the present as soon as I build up the courage.vwuz.jpg

  5. Like Pheo, I also happen to be an art major who's been taking classes these past couple years. I haven't been able to take many classes at a time so far because of money, but hopefully I take advantage of my good grades and get some scholarship money so I can just finish with community college and move on to whatever's next.

In the meantime I think it'd be a good idea to get some of my work out there. I have a deviantart but I mostly use it to track artists than post stuff. I'll start with my class stuff and them maybe that'll inspire me to draw and paint more on my own time. Here's a huge, blurry photograph of a graphite and charcoal picture of a Zaku II looking badass from a couple years ago. I apologize for the image quality, I'm not good with an iphone  >.> Looking back on it there's a lot I would do differently had I made this recently, but for the time I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.wt85.jpg

  6. This thread has brought many heavy, important issues to light, and will continue to be a bright and shining example of the finest internet forums have to offer throughout the centuries.

But none of that matters right now. No, what matters is how gay we all are, and how I am obviously the least gay one here.

  7. I'm actually caught up on Kill la Kill sooner than expected. Let me also declare that I have hopped on the hype-train for episode 12. Spoils for 11 ahead.

Nonon has been excellent these past couple episodes. This flashback format for fleshing out the elite four is really working well. After seeing what drives the other 3 elites it was cool to see Nonon is just looking out for her bestie, who happens to be a totalitarian dictator.

One of my favorite things to see in film/animation is well-known classical music played in contrast to ultraviolence, and episodes 10 and 11 gave me plenty of that.

I'm really glad they finally recognized the world outside of Hounouji academy. Like with Gurren Lagann, KlK has done a great job showing scale and escalation, and has only now, 11 episodes in, added new characters who can stand on equal footing with Satsuki, literally on top of her spire alongside her, into the mix. This is the point where I imagine keeping the quality of the story consistent becomes harder, but the first 11 episodes were so masterfully put together I'm much more excited than worried.

  8. False I guess? I always thought it was heracy.

True. The heresy was that she cross-dressed. At her trial she signed an agreement before god to never wear men's clothe's again, among other things, in exchange for her life. The next day she was found wearing men's clothing again. There is a strong possibility she was forced to wear men's clothes because her guards took the clothing she was given and replaced them.

  9. I'm not super-experienced with Smash Bros. but I think balance and spectacle need not be contradictory things. In a purely competitive game like a fighter, being able to stand a chance with any and every character against similarly skilled people seems like there's no downside. If anything, having more balance increases spectacle, because it widens the possibilities of crazy things that can happen by including a greater variety of characters.

  10. I semi-recently came into possession of the Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii. Never played a Metroid game before. I've started the first game and am loving it so far. The motion controls were ported over really well. I've been told that 1 and 3 are noticeably better than 2, so when I get around to Echoes I expect my hipster senses to kick in and it will end up as my favorite just because.

  11. I largely agree that these games (at least the one's I've played) are some of the greats of this fading generation, even if I disagree on the order they were put in. 4 respect points for not being afraid to put some controversial picks in there.

Side note: Half-Life 2 was from the previous generation before this last (it was on the PC and original X-Box) even though it was released on this last gen via the Orange Box. The Half-Life 2 episodes could be considered last gen, tho.

  12. I really dig the new Akira dub too. I've heard Bosch give too many different performances for me to be distracted when I hear him nowadays, Plus I also really like Joshua Seth's Tetsuo. It probably helps that I can't compare him to Tai because I never watched Digimon, and my only prior experience with him voice acting was as Dio in Last Exile, which was a very different role and my favorite character in the series.

Also, I recently finished the Steins;Gate anime and have had my mind blown and heart repeatedly punched into submission and then lifted into cheering. That was some absolutely brilliant character-driven storytelling. The show "gets real" so seamlessly well and had god-tier cliffhangers. Now I plan on watching the OVA and the movie, and maybe eventually playing the VN considering all the good things I hear about it.

  13. I just finished Battle Tendency. Jojo is such a good example or efficient storytelling. No time is wasted and it doesn't feel rushed either. I get to know these characters in 15 episodes better than some who stick around for hundreds of episodes in other shounen series. And even better, every fight is unique and the death scenes are top-tier. To know Jojo is to know true love.

Sure is like Mako to remind us of an anime with one of the most infamously deadly and depressing endings in the genre and still manage to be the most encouraging character in the show.Space-Runaway-Ideon.jpg

  15. I'm currently playing Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (I'm a big chunk through act 4 but not quite finished), Uncharted 3, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, and few PSP/PS1/Wii games I visit on-and-off that I really should get around to finishing.

Although I love me son Sony, I have a serious Nintendo deficiency in my gaming diet, which is why I hope to have a 3DS before too long.

  16. I once got a free Zoids New Century Zero vhs tape with a single episode and a preview for Zoids Fuzors (which ended up being horribly disappointing) when one of the parent's bought me a zoid model kit way back when.

  17. Ah, Black Rock Shooter. Another one of those popular japanimations all the kids are in to that I have not yet seen. Guess I'll have to watch it and develop an opinion eventually, especially since I enjoy watching divisive popular things and taking a side.

  18. That's definitely cool. I have not seen Muchishi yet myself, but it bums me out when people can't enjoy a story because the pacing is slow, like when my dad and sister fell asleep when we went to see Hugo a couple years ago.

  19. I'm pretty impressed with your work. I'm an art student myself, currently taking my first formal painting class. I know how hard it is to balance composition and color and I am nowhere near as confident with digital drawing/painting as you seem to be. Good stuff. I especially like the "doodle" of the girl in the clouds.

  20. I see my attempt to say something as boring and as non-controversial as possible failed. Well, I guess my initial impulse to leave these things to people who're informed was a good idea and my mental congress really screwed up not voting for that option. I surrender my skepticism to science.

  21. I have a very odd relationship with climate change. I've ingested several very contradictory sources of information on the subject and came to the conclusion that I don't know a thing about how climate works and should just act on the safe side just in case we can actually make a difference.

I'm not too worried, though, because we'll surely develop super-weather-eco-laser satellite systems in the future that will keep the entire planet at a comfortable 72 degrees Fahrenheit at all times with no problems whatsoever.

  22. The worst of the weather was too the north of us. Yet somehow, near a friend of mine's house the wind blew open a streetlight and tried to blow the bulb inside onto the street. It was unsuccessful at the second objective and merely left a still-lit light bulb flapping around in the wind on it's wire just outside of the lamp. It  must have been terribly annoying for the people across the street who's house now had a spotlight on it.

  23. I'm pretty sure that's the most ridiculous use of english in a japanese song I've ever heard. Is that an anime series adapted into a fighting game? And isn't that Guts's Dragon Slayer Sword?

EDIT: Okay now the ridiculous chorus is stuck in my head and is probably going to stay there. SKILLLLLLL MY HEEEAAAAAART!

That footage is from Super Robot Wars, a long running series a turn-based strategy rpgs that are massive crossovers between a bunch of mecha-based anime and manga. They're excessively awesome as one might guess. Sadly, because of rights issues the only ones available without importing (here in the U.S. at least) are the Original Generation SRW games, which, as the title implies, have original stories, characters, and robot designs.

And also Jam Project is amazing. That is all.
