In essence, the root of all evil is greed. People want things like power, material goods,

sex

, attractiveness, etc. Wanting these things isn't necessarily bad, though, just when you resort to evil means to obtain them. Since money can buy all these things, we just think of money as representative as them, which works fine. Greed can and will prevale in every socio-economic system that has ever been or ever will be designed by man, and thus, so can evil.
