There's something dangerously wrong with a multi-billion dollar company being able to control how, when, where, and what consumers purchase. The laws are so fricking outdated it's ridiculous. I cannot fathom what kind of old, decrepit, senile bastards we must have in congress, but I cannot believe we have the technology we do without laws to protect us. The consumer HAS to have rights, and the consumer's rights MUST be protected, or else the companies (such as Microsoft) can do whatever they want. And that is so criminal that I cannot believe nothing is being done about it.

Already, the digital products we own are only "licensed" to us, according to every download service ever.

That's f ucking wrong. To sell a product and claim that it's a license? I cannot believe they get away with that. And yet, they do. I don't expect them to keep the game on their servers forever, no. That would be ludicrous. But the product I have on my PS3? Or PC? That's MINE. With the current EULA, they could take that from you at any time. If your Steam library is banned, all of your games are gone.

It's so pathetic that we have to stand for stuff like this. Aren't we in "America?" Where's the freedom? This day and age, we've replaced literal chains for digital ones.

    I'll do my best.

This is a great way for Microsoft to control game sales and piracy. With the daily check-in, they can consistently check whether the game you are playing is indeed legitimate. It keeps pirates from being able to use the console offline, because they'd have to check in like everybody else (though, I'm not so sure pirates couldn't just crack the entire system, but that would mean purchasing the system. Not to mention it would be difficult to do, due to having to remain offline the entire time). This will probably be a godsend for developers who have their panties in a wad over piracy. They're probably eager to program for this system. It puts the "power" back in the hands of Microsoft, the publishers, and the developers, at the cost of the consumer's freedom and power. To Microsoft, this is not a negative. All at the same time, it gives them unparalleled access to you and your living room. They will know what you like to watch, what you like to play, when you like to watch/play, etc. It's marketing at its most invasive level that would essentially allow Microsoft to truly give you a personal experience.

What they'll probably end up doing (I'm almost sure of it) is dialing back a lot of the stuff gamers complained about, while also keeping the important things to Microsoft. That way it looks like they had a change of heart, but in reality they implemented more invasive policies that gamers are willing to live with, as long as [insert bullshit policy here] doesn't happen again. They're trying to push as far as possible. Remember, your digital rights are completely up in the air as a consumer. The policies and laws are incredibly outdated, and Microsoft wants to ensure THEY control how the law works. It's disgusting (and possibly criminal), but they're entirely within their rights to do this kind of stuff right now because the law isn't clear.

It's creepy already. A comment on Cracked:

The most worrysome part about this console is a combination of the following:

It is designed for your cable to run through it meaning it knows what you are watching.
The kinect can detect faces, emotions (happy, sad, neutral), your heart rate - which it then links to your (mandatory) online xbox live account, so it knows exactly who you are. Including age, sex, and your credit card number.
And the Kinect can never be turned off or removed without disabling the entire thing (and probably your TV if is wired to pass through its HDMI).
The mandatory internet connection will guarantee that that data they collect about you will make it back to their servers.
Using your IP address they can figure out where you are located in the country down to a couple city blocks.

When you combine these things, you get a system that at all times can detect every single piece of media you consume, and how you (and anyone in the room) reacts to it - down to the second.

IF YOU AND A FRIEND WATCH AN EPISODE OF THE BIG BANG THEORY THEY WILL KNOW EXACTLY WHO WAS WATCHING, HOW LONG YOU WATCHED IT, AND EXACTLY WHICH JOKES YOU LAUGHED AT (none of them). They will know if you are watching the commercials, leave the room, or start just dicking around on the internet while they play.

This kind of direct marketing data would be worth tens of BILLIONS of dollars to Microsoft. Just look at how much Facebook is worth using only data that people have to go out of their way to give them. Not to mention the fact that people will be giving them hundreds of dollars just to opt into their anti-consumer marketing scheme.

You better believe that Microsoft will sell that data, and use it them selves to advertise directly to you (and possibly over the top of Live TV). Plus, that data could be subpoenaed and used against you in court (The defendant SAYS he was at home watching TV with is life, but our data proves he was there alone). It could even be used as blackmail if someone at Microsoft had a motivation to dig up your activity.

Microsoft won't be trying to directly film you jerking off, but the data they will be profiting off of, in my opinion, is far more disgusting and invasive.

I think gamers are upset because they want the Xbox to focus on games. I think that's a valid concern, however, Microsoft doesn't necessarily care about "gamers." Microsoft is trying to completely take over the living room. They're appealing to the mass audience right now. They're banking on the fact that millions of college frat boys, soccer moms, and young kids will pick up the new Xbox for Call of Duty, Kinect fitness, and the new TV features. They want to replace the cable box and I can totally see that happening with the Xbox One.

That said, I personally do not want/need all of those features. I don't watch television, I don't keep up with fantasy football...the Xbox One doesn't appeal to me in those areas. The games, the part that I DO care about, were Forza and Call of Duty. Yeah. Like I didn't already know those would come out. I expect at e3 to see a new Halo, a new Gears, and possibly a new Killer Instinct.

My biggest issues with the One include the 24 hour check-in, the used game fee, lack of backwards compatibility, evolving achievements, and, most importantly, the lack of quality RPGs. I'm usually connected to the internet. Usually being the key term. Occasionally, I take my Xbox places without internet. It baffles me that I will no longer be able to do that beyond 24 hours. That's a MAJOR step backwards in both my freedom and technological advancement. The used game fee is ridiculous and SHOULD be criminal. Microsoft should not be allowed to dictate how much I buy a copy of a game that NO LONGER BELONGS TO THEM. Backwards compatibility is a problem with both the PS4 and One, so that I suppose I'll have to live with. It's, again, stupid and baffling that we're going backwards. Consoles should be able to play previous generations. The Wii U can. Evolving achievements look interesting, but it makes me mad that I can no longer get 1000/1000 in games because, whoops, the developer changed the achievements yesterday. And I am a HUGE RPG fan, so that's what initially turned me on to the 360. Late in the console's life, however, the quality RPGs diminished or disappeared completely. The PS3 ended up being the better system for RPGs in the long run.

At least with Sony's reveal, they focused on games. The entire hour was dedicated to games. They showed off cross game chat, how PSN would still be free (and Plus would still be awesome), and they showed a few new exclusives.

From a gamer standpoint, there's no way in hell I want a One right now. It just looks like a waste of money for me. From the average consumer standpoint, the One looks so much better than the PS4 in just about every aspect. It PAINS me to say that, even though the PS4 looks like the superior system for gamers, the One will probably outsell it by a large margin.

Gamers should buy the PS4, for obvious reasons. No Always Online, no used game fees (that we know of), free online, less bullshit, more games, etc.

Frankly I'm at a bit of a crossroads. I want a PS4. I'm 99.9 percent positive all of my friends are going to get an Xbox One.

60 bucks for live, no used games, 24 hour required Internet connectivity...blah. I may just get a PS4 and say puppy multiplayer.
